what is the difference on 2ZR-FE engines?

hello, I just purchased a yaris! I've been doing some research on what needs to be done for faster driving. i'm a big fan of rotrex superchargers, but I have not found anything on here about anyone using one on the 1nz, but I've found kits in japan. i'm not interested in a blitz s/c because the efficiency is not there on the screw s/c imo. I've seen a few turbo kits, and they seem to work well. I came across the engine swap posts, but they were pretty vague and there seemed to be just a bunch of talk.
so, the 2zr-fe seems to be a good swap. the issue I have is all posts say XD is the swap, but it has the lowest output numbers. what is the difference between XD and corolla 2ZR-FE? is it just exhaust manifold and other bolt-ons, or is the block physically different? I see there is a 10hp-ish gain from going with a corolla engine. why is the XD pushed so much when it's the weakest output?
thanks for any info.
j.

The part numbers for the block assembly are the same for the corolla and xd, so the 6% difference in hp and less than 2% difference in torque likely are a product of the differences in intake and exhaust layouts.

Having driven supercharged, turbo, and 2ZR swapped Yaris, I would definitely say that the 2ZR is the best choice for a daily driver, if you can track one down reasonably.

the XD and corolla/matrix blocks are identical. It is the result of intake/exhaust design due to the room. There was talk a long while back regarding ECUs that may have a factor, but the topic has hit a dead end. Also, the 2ZR does have a more limited aftermarket than the 1NZ, but you can be happy with ~140 engine hp after simple addons. (add another good chunk of hp if the RPM midpipe directly fits into a yaris)

Yes. The key is that the XD motor mounts bolt right into the Yaris. Also, the XD exhaust manifold fits in the Yaris (although the stock Yaris exhaust does not work with it.

there's also the 2ZR-FAE engine on select usdm 2014+ corollas that have more power (higher compression+valvematic), which is a very unknown thing in terms of swapability.

im leaning more towards modified head, and extra wiring...could be changes to the block to fix potential issues found in the regular 2zr
