That was a good vid. And using a phone for whatever reason while driving is completely banned here. Matter of fact traffic doesn't seem so slow and reckless anymore...

I was going west on the 91 about 11:30 am and a young boy was texting. He kept looking up and then back to his left hand at the phone. He spent more time looking at his phone than driving. I haven't seen any reduction of people using their phone since the law went into effect.

When I had my truck, I would use the key to make it backfire; it was LOUD. The Idiot Class hadn't started texting then, but talking on the phone was usual. Amazing the reaction one gets when there is a huge blast right outside the driver's window in the middle of a conversation! Women (particularly with kids in the ca) were my favourite target...

Me either.....

It pisses me off they are driving slow or started to come onto the other lane ans swerving back in their own. And people barely get pulled over for talking o texting on their phones....cops are more after the smaller things on a car...ie: exhaust, intake, WINDOW TINT, etc...

No one follows the rules of the road in California

If the DMV would require an intelligence test, than no one would be texting while driving.

An interesting thing I heard on a podcast (I think "On Point") was one's responsiveness while talking on the phone while driving is the same as drinking and driving. So why aren't the penalties the same, if its just as dangerous?

i remember watching this video in my drivers ed class last year.

Its not allowed here too and it pisses me off that cops get to do it while they catch everyone else who does it. I still see people that talk on the phone while driving.

Exactly!
Although using a cell phone while driving has been ilegal in NYS for quite a while and recently, texting has benn made ilegal, I have yet to see or even hear of anyone who actually got a ticket for it.
This is in spite of the fact that I constantly see ilegal cell phone usage right front of cops and they do absolutly nothing!

Just because you are not looking at the screen doesn't mean that you are giving your driving all your attention!

Rear end collisions are an ever growing problem and and the most prevelent reason (next to tailgating) is inatentive driving.

Inatentive driving is defined as not giving your driving 100% of your attention.

^^ I understand what you're saying, but the lady next to him putting on makeup and reaching back to beat her kids, while holding her big mac and switching spongebob tapes is more distracted than he is texting.

Instead of adding on to the millions of laws in the US, they should just make actual driving violations much stiffer. Texting isn't the issue. Dumb people who can't drive are the problem.

And as RedRide said, NEXT to tailgating. I personally believe roads would be 20 times safer if cops actually enforced tailgating laws, but that isn't exciting and doesn't make news, just texting crap every night.

i saw a car flipped onto its side on the highway, in the median (read soft, grassy plain about 25 yards wide), with the driver outside, standing, Okay. no other car in sight, except for the police officers scratching their heads, and asking questions it seemed. what was the girl, I mean driver doing while being questioned? texting.
all i could think of: "oh, Em Gee! I totally flipped my car and survived a near fatal accident! let me status update this to all my friends!"
