Post Pro-Yaris hypermiling article

This article was done by my city's newspaper, the Reno Gazette-Journal, and was published in last Sunday's paper.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4204

Yes, that's me.

does anyone know if there is such thing as a start/stop function modification available for gas-only vehicles?

this would seem to me to make a big difference in mpg and could possibly be an inexpensive modification.

Cool article.

stuffy... automatic engine start/stop functionality already exists in Toyota cars... the Prius has it. And the Vitz in Japan has it as an option... they call it the Toyota Intelligent Idling Stop System (webpage here).

thanks for passing that along doc, i was aware of this function on hybrids, but didn't know it was available anywhere for the yaris.

i wonder if a n.american yaris could be modified to perform this function.
does anyone know what it entails?

In wonder if they might not bring it here next year to offset some of the MPG losses under the new EPA ratings.

They found me through the Toyota dealership I bought it at.

Thanks, stuffy, but if you read more carefully you'll see a 49.74 MPG tank as well. Feel free to click my signature to track my Yaris MPG history thus far.

This part sucks. "Change oil often.: Oil thickens as it gets old, increasing engine drag. It's doubtful your mileage will increase enough to compensate for the cost of the changes, though."

How often do you change? Synthetic?

Wow, excellent work...

50 MPG on your commute with hills is quite a feat! I heard some folks debating that although our cars are better with emissions, they don't stack up with the Metro's or VX's mileage. Thanks for a strong testament for the Yaris!
