2007 Alternator in a 2012
Will an alternator from a 2007 drop into a 2012?

Doing some research on this and still coming up with nothing definitive.
The part number for the 2007 alternator is 27060 21150. This part number was superseded around 2009 by 27060 21151. I am going to drop in the 2007 alternator in my 2012 and see what happens. |

The connections are the same. The 2007 alternator plugs right in.

The pulley changed at some point, but I don't recall if it was with the bodywork in 2012 or if it happened later. I have interchanged the two, just swapped the pulley - it is visibly different, you can't miss it.

There are two different length belts available for the 2012. The pulley on the alternator may be the difference. |

The pulley change was a shoulder on the backside of the pulley which pushed it out a few mm. Looking at pics I believe this was later than 2012, like 2015ish. Hard to see here, but in the lower left corner you can see alt pulley with the wider shoulder: Older Yaris alt pulley:

I don't think it was for an AC delete unless the delete required an idler pulley to replace the AC compressor. Some GM cars have this.
The difference in the belt is about an inch. I always buy both and return the one I don't need. Thanks for the pics. I really hope I don't have to take the pulley off the 2012. The shaft and nut are a rusted mess. |

On older Canadian yaris the diagram without a/c no idler pulley is needed. I have a similar belt set up on my 2zr and when I deleted the a/c no idler pulley was needed.
I guess the only way to know is to find the length difference
