Yaris turns off after oil light blinking

Hello friends,

Happy holidays to all.
I have an annoying problem and I dont know if can be harmful in the future, please advice.

I own a yaris 2010 that was running fine, but about a month ago I have a problem when the engine is "warmed up".

When Im pressing the accelerator, the car works fine, but when I have to stop and the car is warmed up, the oil light starts blinking, the car vibrates like old cars when are too cold or if gas is not enough.

After that, If I dont press accelerator, the engine just turns off. Please check the youtube videos Im passing and you will see that this problem happens wether Im with D in the gear box or Neutral.

Thank you for the advices

The oil pressure warning light is fed directly by the oil pressure switch on the engine. The flickering would indicate that it is right on the edge of the pressure being too low.

Have you connected a tachometer (or scan tool that can read RPM) to see if the RPM is extremely low?

Hi CTScott,

I have not checked with a tachometer, but I can feel how the RPM is very low when I stop, I assume the vibration is a symptom of that.

What can I do to improve that?

I forgot to mention that this problem started pretty much after I installed a new battery, bigger than the original, might that be one of the causes?

Ah, with the battery being removed you may have run into the throttle body carbon issue. There is a Toyota service bulletin that says that if the idle is low after disconnecting the battery that the cause is carbon build-up in the throttle body. Try cleaning the throttle body and your problem may go away.

A larger battery won't be a problem. If anything it should give you longer battery life.

It looks like you have the 1.3L 2SZ-FE engine. The throttle body is below the air filter assembly. to get to it you have to remove the front of the filter assembly and then remove the two bolts by where the front and back meet as well as one bolt in the center of the rear section.

Here's a picture of the back side of the engine showing the throttle body right below the air filter/intake:

And, here's a picture of the throttle body with the air filter/intake removed:

Dear CTScott I did it, I forgot to post about this, but I managed to clean the throttle body.

The problem went away, and now the engine starts just like new.

BTW, do you have photos where to load the transmission oil for this particular engine?

Does yours have the manual transmission, MMT or CVT?
