Hyundai IONIQ

Any interest in this vehicle? It was released in early 2016 in Korea and is just becoming available in the US as a 2017 model. It certainly is a handsome car... unlike the new Toyota Prius.

57/59 MPG CITY/HWY

MSRP is $22,200.

From the one pic, it looks plain Jane to me. Very square.

^^^ I guess that's what I especially like about it; a relatively conservative sheet metal design, a clean and classy appearance, and lines that just make sense from any angle... to me anyway.

Kimona nailed it on the description. This Hyundai is simple and nice. Take the new Civic for instance?...that is a car that is trying too hard with its appearance.

Not a bad car, but personally, I would pay $700 more, and get a Kia Niro.

http://www.kia.com/us/en/vehicle/niro/2017

Much more space, and fuel ecconomy is only 0.1-0.2L/100km worse than the Prius.

^^^ Thanks for the information. I wasn't familiar with the Kia Niro.

It looks okay, but not great (IMHO). I like the big driving lights in the lower front apron, but not much else about the overall design. To quote ern-diz " it looks plain Jane to me. Very square."

Plus, it's a bit more expensive, and the city/highway MPG is significantly less than the Hyundai.

MSRP: $22,890
city/hwy mpg 52/49

Don't mean to thread jack, but I'm just going to leave this right here for you, kimona...

Nothing to see here, back to Hyundai's and Kia's...

I like the general shape and lines of the vehicle (reminds me of Honda before they went off the deep end in styling), but not a fan of the design choices on the front and rear of vehicle. The rear end (bumper) looks like someone pulled its pants down.

Well it certainly looks better than the Prius, if it actually performs better than one Toyota may have to rethink things.

Stopped by a Hyundai dealership to see the IONIQ yesterday. The car is very handsome in person. Exterior fit and finish is excellent. Michelin tyres are standard. Interior materials look good and are made from green materials; volcanic stone natural plastics and sugar cane bio fabric! The Ioniq is comfortable and interior volume is surprisingly good. It drives extremely well; whisper quiet, soft ride, plenty quick, nice braking, and decent handling. The transmission works very well! No CVT, thankfully. The turn off for me is how tech heavy the car is. For many, this may be a real positive, but I like a very simple car, and would be happy with an automatic transmission and basic power package and little more. Nevertheless, I liked the car a lot. Too bad it's a Hyundai... which kinda scares me.

Hybrid vehicles are for movie stars and the wealthy. They are NOT cost effective compared to a car like the Yaris. Especially with $2 a gallon gas.

Toyota hybrids have been proven as reliable as a Yaris even the battery.

A Hyundai hybrid?

Who wants to be a guinea pig?

Anyone?

So I saw one of these in person for the first time today. Looks pretty good. I could do without the black plastic strip on the bumpers, but overall I consider it a reserved, sensible design. So rare nowadays it seems. Certainly much more pleasing to the eye than the new Prius design.

I would be hard-pressed to name another current vehicle uglier than the latest Prius, but there are quite a few good 2nd place runner-ups for that title (Civic to name one). Amazing how aesthetics vary so much from person to person, eh? Eye of the Beholder and all that.
