Bought a Yaris
Well.
I'm a Ford guy. I have been for a long time. I've bought 4 new fords in the past 14 years. And I was set to buy a new Ford Fiesta (cool little car). But I didn't. I bought a Yaris. 09 2dr lb, manual, sky blue. I got it used at $2000 under KBB from a Ford Dealership. Only had 24,000 miles on it. I must say, I love this little car. It was the base model with winter package and ABS. So - no power locks/windows and no tacho. I like simplicity. I installed a tacho (thanks to DIY posts on this forum for that). My first fill-up yielded an impressive 36.38mpg in city driving. And that was with a lot of (hadn't driven a stick in 10 years). I was doing DFCO whenever I could but not really doing any other hypermiling techniques. (again thanks to this forum for DFCO). Anyway. Next mod is going to be the stereo (for better iPod control and sound). Then I'll worry about swapping all bulbs to LEDs (blue LEDs in the cabin for a cooler look). :) Love this little car. Who would have thought... |

I have the 08 version of the same vehicle. Quickly approaching 76K with absolutely no problems. With some practice over the next year, you can get into the 40+ Mpg range.
When you need to, it might be surprising how much the little thing carries if you use all the cubbies and hidden storage spots. I actually found it getting more comfortable and predictable after what I consider the `2nd break-in' around 50K. Good luck with it. |

+1 on Ford. Before getting the Yaris, I had also considered the new Fiesta. But ultimately, I didn't want to be the test driver de-bugging a first year model car.
I still have an Expedition. The 6 speed auto tranny makes highway MPG a little more bearable. My brother in law jokes that my Yaris fits in the back of the Expedition, kinda like how the Knight Rider car comes out of that Semi truck. |

We have a relative who jokes about how the 3 door could fit in the back of their EXPLORER . Thing is they've had to borrow money to pay for the gas to get to work and never paid it back to that person . They also ran up their credit card for fillups and have been penalized for late payments . Still they say they'd never buy a economy car because they don't feel safe in it like the EXPLORER . Thing is that year EXPLORER is rated terrible for rollover .
