2010 Yaris?

Ok, heres a nice little thread for everyone to discuss.

If you have had your head stuck in a hole this whole year, 2009 was a big year for the Yaris. Well kinda, they redesigned it and added some nice pretty designing inside. The Onyx special edition came out (which wasnt all it was cracked up to be)...

Well for 2010, there hasnt been much said or discussed yet, but with the current changes to the Yaris overseas, it took a chat with Tamago and a realization of current models, that the 1nz (1.5L motor) is getting phased from Toyota's lineup.

Scion Xa/Xb, Yaris, Prius all had the 1.5L at the same time. Now Toyota has done away with 3 of the 4 platforms that origionally came with the motor. All have been equiped with the 1.8L or 2.4L... Soooo, does this mean that the Yaris is next?

I personally think so, I see within the next year, either the 2010 or 2011 Yaris will be equiped with the same 1.8L that the Yaris TS and Scion Xd are equipped with.

What you guys think? Logical assumption, or am I crazy?

That would be unfortunate. I'd rather see the 1.3L, though it's too late for me, I already made my purchase.

Good news for future Yaris owners, finally an engine that handles boost well!
Could be possible that the next Yaris would have rear disk brakes as well, possible 5 lug pattern if they take the direct Xd approach.

Why the 1.3L, the car would be come rather sluggish and underpowered. Would feel like a smart car.

Also, it is said that the Scion IQ when it gets here will have the 1.5L engine in it, so question is now. They could leave the Yaris with the 1.5L, but it would be kinda stupid to do so. Every car maker who is making subcompacts is trying to sqeeze every HP out of their engines, even upping the displacement on paper 1.5L --> 1.6L, I could see Toyota delivering a big slap in the face by shoving a 1.8L and then becoming on par with the Nissan Versa.

I think it's confirmed that it will be the 1.3L, at least that is what I read.

1.8L in the Yaris makes sense; it can be configured for very efficient mileage, and if they are using it in the Prius, why not the Yaris too.

p.s. -- I would "configure" the 1.8L for something else, though...

I think a 1.8L Yaris pushing 400whp is in the works from MicroImage, lol.

I think the 1.8L will be "downtuned" to get similar MPG ratings to what we have now, or just slightly above that of the Xd, The Yaris will remain the flagship for Toyota when it comes to non hybrid MPG machines, at least here in the US...

If they take the Yaris all 1.8L worldwide, just think what it is in the works for a TRD package over in Japan, lol. 250hp Turbo 1.8L

yaris may be going hybrid.. probably 1.8 L with hybrid...
http://www.autoweek.com/article/20090325/FREE/903259995

but yes, I too think the 1.5 is getting phased out

what I'd like to see is a batteryless hybrid, with just some big capacitors and a good single gear tranny to an electric generator. it could be much cheaper (and lighter) than the current battery-hybrid stuff... not to mention the electric motors could be in the back to help displace weight... but hey, I don't get paid the big bucks ;D

It certainly doesn't need a bigger or more powerful engine, but that seems likely to happen.

I'd like to see a similar yaris as now but with a reduced profile roof line and lower stock seats.

Will the 2010/2011 have a body profile like ours now?

I dont think that the Yaris will get a chopped look anytime soon, many reasons it is so popular is the fact that you can fit 4 people in the car with no hassles, this includes that you need alot of head room to do this in the back.

Plus before the site hack, someone tried to do a roof hack photoshop and it didnt look very good. Whole car has to be profiled down, the doors are way too big if u are looking to lower the complete profile of the car, down to TC height...if thats what your wanting.

a convertible could quite possibly have a lowered roof line, rather effectively by reducing the angle on the front window, minimizing window sizes... i too think it's (hatchback) is a bit too tall for most needs...and why oh why is the sedan lower in profile than the hatchback....i have no idea

the 1.5 is plenty of engine for the yaris, but im sure toyota will follow the trend and put the 1.8 in the next gen. i get 40+mpg highway easily in my 09 corolla, which is 2700+ lbs. if they keep the next yaris from bloating up to 2500 lbs, it should achieve great mileage.

personally, id like them to not bother with a hybrid yaris. the purchase price will take it away from its current role, cheap, reliable transportation.
