Optima Yellow Top Battery Install

I have a Optima Yellow Top battery from my previous car and wanted to install it in my 2009 Toyota Yaris. Unfortunately, the battery terminals are on the opposite side and don't fit. I don't really want to buy a new one as they're expensive. Does anyone know if there is any way to extend the battery cables so they fit on the terminals or anything else I can do? Thanks for the help in advance.

I believe I have the Yellow Top D34/78 and from the Optima site... it says I need the D35.

Yes, you should be able to buy longer cables at a parts store, but what are you going to do with the "old" stock battery? They're probably good for 4-5 years, you know. I have a 2004 Ford Ranger and the original battery is still good...

Well...have you tried putting the batter in facing backwards? Lengthening the cables would probably involve cutting and splicing, unless there are purpose-made cable extenders out there. If they exist, they'd be on ebay. :)

You can probably sell your Optima for a minimal loss and buy a new one that's correct for the application. Might only end up costing you $20-$30 bucks if your Optima is relatively new and in good nick.

BTW -if you aren't adding significant stereo amps or a winch, there isn't much advantage to the optima. Might be worth your while to sell it and buy goodies from Garm...

Of course, no one on the forum is rocking a winch...YET!

Yeah, most (if not all) Toyotas use a #35 battery. This is an industry designation and not from Toyota.
In other words, any manufactur's #35 battery will fit.

Personally, I like Optima batteries and have one (red top) in my other car.

Did you try turning the battery around?

as long as it's not a combo like a 35/75 or semi universal, although they list the bci group 35, they have center posts for universality, and the 90 degree cable end for our positive won't fit... i know because i got a $100 battery for $5 and tried using it... :(

Can you install two batteries in a car? Maybe in the trunk?
