Rear axle lateral movement

My 2007 HB is experiencing axle hop when cornering over bumps, feels like the car shifts a few inches, it also has vibration issues in the 55-60 MPH range (90-100 Km/hr) and there is a definite metallic thud when hitting bumps/cracks in the road.

I'm guessing the axle bushings are shot, as I've read that the stock rubber ones aren't that good. Think a shock replacement at the same time would be in order ?

Any replacement ideas (in Canada) for this ? I was going to check NAPA first, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

I' recommend ordering you parts from Rock Auto and save over the oem rubber ones that aren't that great to begin w/.

If you're ove 100,000km then a shock replacement would be a good idea (although they can easily go to 130,000+km)

Buy the shocks at RockAuto a you'll pay less than half than you would at a Canadian Tire

I'll need to check pricing and shipping, 30+% exchange could be a killer.

I didn't see anything on Rock Auto for the rear axle bushing though most suspension parts are for front (other than springs & shocks).

Guess I'll need to go through it more closely.

Haven't found a source for the axle bushings yet, other than Toyota. They want $110 for each one.

NAPA and PartSource don't carry them. Guess I'll have to look farther afield.

Anyone know of a good source that would carry these ?

Pricing is much cheaper than OEM rubber part, but that's not always a good thing....

I found this urethane bushing on amazon. Not sure how legit it is though.

On Amazon as well, never heard of Siberian Bushings (not surprising).

Also found a FEBEST OEM bushing at $14.88, but that's crazy cheap and sets off all sorts of alarms for me. Don't know if I'd want to risk going that cheap, may try Siberian if nothing else local can be found.

2007 yaris rs 3dr hatchback, 265,000km. I am replacing the rear shocks and springs this weekend, but am now wondering if I should wait and do the bushings as well. What did you end up doing?

Wondering if bad rear axle bushings fixed the rear hop?

I am experiencing that same thin on cornering and hitting a bump. That being said I have no other symptoms and I al also lowered so i'm more inclined to say it has more to do with the newer springs than a worn bushing

From what I understand, this problem is not really a worn part; it's just the way the suspension works. It's been doing that on my '10 hatch since it was new. Perhaps a rear sway bar would help? It's first on my list of suspension mods, and from what I hear it does transform the ride characteristics.

That issue is most likely damper related. Unless you're running performance dampers you'll get some hop in corners, especially if you're lowered with stock damping.

thanks for the input, that's what I was thinking it was as I never noticed it on a specifific on ramp corner I take every day until this school year, which was the first time I have ridden it being lowered.

O well, it's not very bad, I'll just wait until I replace the struts/shocks in a couple years to sport ones
