Echo with 760,000 miles

Just saw an Ebay auction for an Echo with 760,000 miles. The listing is kind of humorous, and the Echo mileage is definitely impressive. Hope I get that outta my Yaris. I'll be 98 years old by the time I put that much road behind me. At any rate, I think the auction is up for a few more days.....

Wow. I've seen YouTube posts about an ECHO with 1,000,000 kilometers on it....but this is almost 150,000 miles past that.

Wow! Looks like he literally drove it til the wheels fell off.

I'm always amazed by these cars [Echo/Yaris]. These are cars that get no respect in the automotive world largely due to their basic nature. They are not "real" cars in the minds of many. And yet, these cheap A-B machines will go further than virtually anything else on the road. How can something so cheaply made be tougher than a $100K Mercedes S-Class? Yet it is.

The uncle of a good friend of mine was riding his bicycle near the beach and saw a sign for an open house. He looked at the house, and then began asking the agent, who was the listing agent, some questions. The agent replied "What difference does it make? You can't afford it". The agent incorrectly assumed that someone who arrived on a bicycle and was dressed for a ride couldn't afford the house. My friend's uncle contacted another agent, obtained the information that was important to him from the other agent, and made a cash offer that was accepted. The listing agent lost part of the commission because of a misguided snooty assumption.

Years ago, the best friend of my girlfriend at the time had a loud fellow employee who always bragged about her s** life. A third older counterpart got so tired of hearing about this from the loud fellow employee that one day she said "I'll bet she has the best s** life" and pointed to my girlfriend's best friend. The loud lady asked the older lady why she thought that was the case. The older lady said "Because she is quiet about it, and doesn't feel the need to broadcast her activities"(...and she was more than likely correct).

The truth is not always obvious, and age does not always beget wisdom .

HA I went into the BMW dealership once looking to take advantage of a 0% loan on a motorcycle. The salesman looked dubious. Given my appearence perhaps he had a point! I filled out the form and he took it to his boss, probably with some unkind comment.

The boss came out to the salesmans cubicle, threw the form on his desk and snorted "He can have any motorcycle he wants!"

Yes ECHOs get no respect.

Except here!

I wonder what it would take to get that ECHO to a million miles?

I remember back in 2000 I jokingly gave a co-worker a hard time about how ugly her Echo was, only to end up buying a Yaris 7 yrs later. Funny how things workout sometimes.

I still think the Echo's are ugly lol.

I have to agree that the Echo was a horrible design when it comes to aesthetics. When I considered replacing my Tercel in the early 2000s I actually chose to forego picking up anything and kept the Tercel because I wanted a basic and cheap A-B car yet couldn't get passed how I felt driving an Echo. Things happen for a reason tho. After 10 worry free and enjoyable years with my Tercel I sold it to a gent for 2k and bought my Yaris sedan.

No doubt the Echo is one of the most awkwardly designed cars of the modern era that was sold in the US. I stress US because we've all seen how hideous many of the cars are in foreign markets, especially 3rd world countries. Seems they are blind to design. I don't know how the Echo's design was signed off on for sale in N America. No other Toyota had shared any similarity either.

Nice! I was luke warm on certain years of the Tercel, but all in all it was a great car.

It wasn't winning any beauty pageants, that's for sure.

That's dope. My aunt had a '90 2 door. I wasn't a big fan of that look. The same year hatchback was not bad tho.

It is, especially with such a beat up body and so much work needed. However, I think in some cases, super high mileage cars can actually have an unmeasured value to them in that they become a rare item that some people become very interested in. Some may want to see how far they can take it. Some of these cars make it back in the showroom to showcase longevity (those better maintained).

I agree re the 2-door coupe and the 4-door sedan....but if we in the U.S. had also had the 3-door hatch available (It was available in Canada!), I probably would have purchased the 3-door hatch rather than a new 2001 Suzuki Swift hatch in 2001.

You forgot to say IMHO!

I liked the looks of the ECHO at first sight. I had test driven a Honda Civic, certain I was going to buy it. It had a 1.7 liter engine and was about as big as my brothers 93 Accord. FAIL! The ECHO was about 2/3 the size.

I knew it was PERFECT!

Once you get past the "I use my car to impress others" mistake the ECHO looks a lot better...
