atomic shifting

I own a 08 yaris sedan auto, is it bad to shift the auto with the lower gears? Like L,2,3,D? Thank you.

There is no problem with changing the gears manually. I often change down on some of the steeper hills in my area to avoid riding the brakes.

I'm fairly sure your '08 has the same gearing as my '13. The manual lists the maximum speeds to downshift the Auto as 53 MPH to downshift to 2nd, and 25 MPH for downshifts to L.

If you manually shift from D to L at 53mph, that would truly be atomic.

It would most likely also be rather expensive...
