Ops, I guess I didn't explain myself real well. Your pics show the blower unit and filter compartment which is just like mine. On the Purolator filter instalation sheet there also appears to be piece that slides in the filter compartment and supports the filter.

nope...there's nothing to support it, just the plain old filter.

Well, if there were a "mounting tray" I'm not sure it would just slide into the slot when the door was removed.

I couldn't simply slide the filter into the filter compartment; I had to very gently bend and twist it into the housing.

Is that your experience with the installation?

Yup, me too.

The only reason I bring up the possibility of another piece is the diagram I had with my filter. Maybe in some applications there is an additional piece? Unfortunately I pitched the diagram before posting, but I am going to buy another filter to have on hand due to the sales pricing and that should have an example I can post.

Yes, I'm looking at the diagram right now, and it does shows a nice tray that the filter fits into before installing it. It would make for a cleaner installation, but I just can't imagine that it would work with our cars considering the location of the unit.

Anyway, wasn't this a Purolator filter for a Scion?

Hey, maybe this is the very reason a filter was never installed by the dealer... the filter tray wouldn't fit!

Whew, thanks for confirming my mystery tray! I just assumed that it was a Yaris diagram due to the similarity of diagram (minus mystery tray). It would make for a clean instalation with that piece if applicable.

I tried half-hearted reference this part number and never did come up with the correct vehicle.

The pic's of my VW cabin air filter was after 12 months of use. I guess I will change both at 6 month intervals. The VW stays nice and dust free on the inside, but the Yaris was always dusty. Now I know why! I really am not doing it for the pollen and such my goal is to keep her clean on the inside.

Well, it's easy to access, so I'll probably check it at 3 month intervals and see how dirty it is. At this point, I can only guess it may need to be changed every 6 months or so.

It does say ">PP - TD20< 144" inside the cover.
Question, did you closed the top door from the fan (not the filter one) or did you left it open? I swear that since I closed it my MPG dropped to like 35. Am I on fucking crack or what?

I think that is the circulation control for interior air that will open, or close when the option is chosen.

He is talking about the opening above the filter cover as noted in your posted picture. If you look closely you will see a gasket around the leading edge of the "door". And also you can see that being in the up position blocks air duct from the exterior.
