Electronic Throttle Control System
Basically, in a traditional car, when you press the gas, a cable goes to the engine and opens up the actual throttle body. In the Yaris and other card with this ECTS system, an electronic sensor detects how much you press the gas, and sends a signal to a servo at the throttle body, to open the throttle appropriately. Fuel efficiency can be increased, I suppose, by preventing the throttle from opening all the way when it does not need to be, or by adjusting the idle speed to be as low as it needs to be, smoothing out your input to prevent sudden changes in engine speed, etc etc... One slightly noticeable problem with this system is that there is a tiny bit of lag in the throttle response, so if you have a manual car it can make gear shift seem a bit strange, you just have to get used to letting go of the throttle a fraction of a second earlier than you normally would. For more information, go to the DIY section, look in the sticky with the technical documentation, then scroll down and download the engine.pdf one. Then, go to page 35 and there's all the info you need on this system! |

I have heard that the fuel consumption becomes bigger...
