Hi everyone. I just bought a 2008 flint Micah 4 Dr sedan with all options except keyless entry, mags, cruise, fog lights. Looking forward to learning a lot about this car here cause I like working on my own stuff. I'm putting a compustar starter/alarm combo in myself in the next few weeks along with OEM cruise. I call my yaris a baby corolla. :)

Hi everyone!

Got my Yaris this Saturday. (Also) liking it so far... but I've already has something strange happening to me...

Anyways, it's an european 2007 model Yaris XP9F with the 1NR-FE 73kW gas engine. It has 14k kms, so it's practically new. I'm already noticing a big difference in engine responsiveness just by having added 1000 kms to it...

So... strange thing that happened... Tried to turn it on this morning and it wouldn't turn on. Electrical part turned on normally, just when I turned the key to start the engine nothing happened! It was -6 degrees outside... So I'm thinking... either there's some strange warming up phase that I don't know of... or the clutch sensor is not working very well... or I don't know...

I popped the hood to see if there was something strange in the engine compartment... like some burned cable or whatever... didn't find anything, so went back in the car, shifted into 1st gear, tried again and voilà, it started...

But what do you guys think it was? And where should I post this? I didn't find any "mechanical problems" section... and also... I bought the car in Germany, where I am living at the moment... but I don't know German at all :p so if someone could provide a link for the english version of the car manual that would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!

Yes I would say so too!

Anyways, no I've been doing it in a very procedural way... get in, turn on the electric stuff... clutch pedal to the metal... turn engine on, and so far no problems. We'll see!!

All the best :)

Hello Yarisworld, I purchased a 2010 Blazing Blue Toyota Yaris 3 door liftback with a 5 speed manual shift transmission at the end of November. I was looking at purchasing a used Honda Fit since they always receive such high marks but the one thing that I would always read about was their not so stellar fuel economy. A 1.5L I-4 should get better then mid to low 30's advertised, and when reading online owners were reporting around the same. Im a field service technician for Dell and some days I drive 200+miles. The main reason for purchasing this vehicle was to use for work and so I needed a car with great fuel economy but also cheap as I pretty much have it in the back of my head that this car will get used hard and will be replaced in about 4 or 5 years. I also wanted something low tech, no hybrids and it had to be no older then 4yrs old. Im so glad I discovered the Yaris, for some reason there are almost no Yaris in my area and I love that. The Yaris is good to me, returning almost 50mpg and almost 40mpg city driving. So far I have painted the stock hubcaps flat black, replaced the stock antenna with a carbon fiber TRD 6" antenna, Garfield Just Clinging Around stuffed animal in the driver side rear glass, WeatherTech floor mats for the front, Infinity Kappa 6.5" F+R, clay bar, waxed it about 3 times, and I have a bottle of Toyota Touch-UP Paint to use soon. Im in the middle of my stereo system build right now and have a Pioneer DEH-80PRS and JL Audio XD400/4 on the way. The 10w7 and black 600 watt JL amp will soon follow. Thats all for now. Bye!

Welcome! I would be interested to hear what you find for real-world fuel economy with the start-stop.

Ok -Ill do a complete fill-up tomorrow morning, and after a week or two of "normal" driving I will likely have emptied the tank and Ill find out exactly how many litres I used and report back.

One of the reasons I bought the car was because Toyota's mpg figures for the 1NR-FE engine were so great, and I do about 46miles per day Monday-Friday.
