timing belt change in 2007 yaris

Hi - 2007 yaris two door hatchback, manual trnasmission

Is the OEM timing belt a chain or a belt?
I have seen both for sale.

You couldn't have seen both for sale. not in America.

You probably have seen the serpentine belt, which have an average life of a timing belt...

I wouldn't be surprised to see a post about how a reader got his timing belt changed for only $500 one of these days...

Starting to hear clackin noise when slowing down and when going from 1st to 2nd gear in the front right side of engine? Progressingly getting louder. Of course the mechanic can't hear it! Does this sound like the timing chain?

Possibly. The timing chain is on the right side of the car. So is the water pump do you have red coolant stains on the underside of the hood? It could be a suspension/drivetrain noise also something may be loose.

Most noises are figments of the owners imagination.

Start your own post about the problem and get CT Scott in on this.

Finally, how many miles on the car and where do you live?
