SPOT THE RICE!!!!

Hey guys, well I thought I'd start a little thread that we do on Southern California Imports forum called. Spot The Rice

Basically, If you see a car that you think is Riced out or anything like that, Just snap a picture and post it on here. Try to take actual pics of cars you see while driving around and stuff. I always have my camera in my car just in case I see a ricer.

I'll start off the first post with a car I saw and a few other random ones I've seen.

I have more but ill stop here and see what else everyone has or sees.

ah come on that star wars one is a work of art...

I see quite a few ridiculous modded cars around here, I'll try and take some pics later..

Still, whenever I see these kinds of threads, I feel bad for the cars' owners... they must be proud of their cars no matter what, as proud as we are of our little bugs...

Oh well, it's still fun to laugh at people

nah the expression "ricing" came from the original nickname of imported small-engined japanese cars, "rice burners"

Over time it just evolved to describe cars modified in such a way that is over the top, all show and no go. For example, huge rear wings on a civic (front wheel drive car does not really not that much downforce), huge, noisy exhausts that make a horrible sound, or other half assed mods like HID lights that are not set up properly, badges that belong to a completely different car or brand (for example, a Honda Type R badge on a Toyota, or BMW badge on a Geo as seen in the first post), and other stuff like that.

Nothing derogatory against asians though

no offense dude, but what the hell:

RICER

(Ricer: from the latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt)

A person who makes unnecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to):

- Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder
- Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747
- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself
- Bodykit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performace intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)
- Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therfore not always considered rice. It really depends on the severity of the case.

The "ricer" attempts to make their car "performance" by adding the modifications listed above. These ricers are not confined to any one ethnic group or color, however different ethnic groups are known for certain styles.

Honda Civics with big spoilers and 4" exhaust tips are considered to be ricers."

IMO its like being called a "Redneck/Idiot" in the car world. So simmer no one here is trying to offend anyone.... unless you have a Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder.... then well, whatever makes you happy.

X2

There's nothing to be offended by the word "RICER"... that is of course... if you are not a ricer!

well not if everyone of your mods actually serves a function (and its not just in your head, aka +hp)
or if the mod would make your gf/wife or really even your mother say "that does look better"

This coming from the guy that changed his dash color.

Not all of my mods serve a purpose, but I like them, and that is all that matters. None of them take away from the car, so I wouldn't call myself a ricer yet. If I ever get an adjustable rear wing, name me accordingly.

Ricer, Barry Boy, squids.. whatever you call them, they make the import scene all the more interesting.

FYI, squids applies to the biker community.
When you see a guy dump his bike on a turn or at high speeds... examine his body, it would resemble, well.. a Squid.. (Flailing arms, jerky movement)
