Sump Guard / Splash Guard retention
Hi All,
I had the last remaining clips holding the guard under the engine to the front bumper fall out while travelling at 100 km/h. The Yaris was due for a service soon, so I used cable ties to reattach it until I went to the dealer's. The service rep from the dealer (yes, actual Toyota dealer) said this is a known problem with the Yaris - the retaining clips are flimsy and it only takes a light scrape on a driveway or similar to make them fall out. He then went on to say they replace any missing clips with CABLE TIES as these are more secure, and avoid any more problems...

I wonder if it depends on the country in which the Yaris is sold or Toyota have decided the guards are not secure enough or they want to save some money?
My 2014 Yaris does not have an under engine cover. The result of this is that, in winter, the salt spray from the roads covers the front of the engine and some parts of the engine bay. |

It's possibly dependent on coutry of manufacture, amongst other things.
My 2012 built Yaris was assembled in Japan and has the 2NZ-FE 1.3 litre engine With 4 speed automatic transmission.

You are probably correct Kevin. U.K. spec. model, so French built.
I'd prefer for there to be a cover whether secured by cable ties or not! My previous Mk. 2 Diesel Yaris (French) had one with a suitable hole directly under the oil drain and a hatch for access to the engine oil filter. |
