What cause the screeching sound when braking?

Thin layer of "rain water" rust on the rotor? (goes away after a few miles).

Or, if the pads are worn out, the metal will scrape on the rotor causing audible squealing. At that point, you must replace both pads and rotors and inspect for other damage.

lol, swidd got it exactly right.

by the sound of it i would go with the pads being worn out.

Aside from the screeching sound, the ABS is on and off without any reason. It started during winter time and the screeching sound just this month. We brought it to the service company and they said there is nothing wrong with it. Can you help me to figure it out what is the problem?
