When should PCV be changed?

Just that? What are the indicators? If the PCV connection or itself isn't working right, what are the signs? Check engine light? Hissing sound? Rough idle when in stopped with break on in drive?

Thanks for any thoughts.

I replaced the one in the car as a part of the 80k miles maintenance I'm doing.

It's so cheap I can't think of why didnt do it at 50k.

Ok...but why? I am curious to know what happens when it stops doing what it was designed to do...which I am not sure of either.

You can easily test it. Just remove it, and give it a shake. If it doesn't rattle, it's gunked up - replace it. They are inexpensive locally or on the 'nets. You'll swear your car will run smoother and you'll have better luck with traffic lights.

Keep us posted!

@cdilmore - thanks so much!

By chance do you know the ft/lb torque spec on the PCV for when I replace it?

According to the manual, 20 ft lbs

I would like to also add, 117k miles and the PCV wasn't gunked up at all! :)

@Yarflana,
Were you successful in changing the PCV valve?
I'm sensing that Congrats are in order!

Blow seals in the engine, make the oil filthy in no time. Maybe some other things, I cant think of right now.
