Serpentine belt broken with oil on it

My battery light came on last night. This morning I popped my hood to see that my serpentine belt was broken and there was oil on one of the ribs. There is some black oil on the side of the engine about midway down. My engine oil isn't black, it's more like a yellowish brown.

Any ideas as to the source of the oil before I call a tow truck?

07 HB btw

Maybe it whacked something else when it snapped and came loose. Check the CV joint boots on the passenger side to make sure that it didn't whip and tear one, picking up the grease from inside of the boot.

Good call there CT. I would have checked oil level at the dipstick then looked elsewhere as in where you stated.

The rubber cover on top of the motor mount was chewed by a racoon more than a year ago, and it has been sort of half assed covered with some plastic covering. It would appear that the source of the oil is the motor mount, I believe the Yaris uses hydraulic fluid in these mounts correct?

So my guess is that the motor mount failed and must be replaced. What do you think?

Engine oil level is fine, same level it was at yesterday when I checked it. I will go look at the CV boots, but I don't think that's where it's coming from.

As I suspected, the oil was from the busted motor mount. It will have to be replaced along with the serpentine belt.

The bearings on my water pump are also shot and it will need to be replaced. The most likely cause is when I tightened the serpentine belt myself and did not check the tension, which put too much strain on the bearings.

WARNING TO ANYONE WHO FINDS THIS THREAD

DO NOT TENSION YOUR OWN SERPENTINE BELT UNLESS YOU HAVE A TOOL TO VERIFY CORRECT TENSION.

That's the AC compressor or water pump. There are just two belt types for the 06-11 USDM Yaris; One for ones with AC and one for ones without.
