How to clean AFE filter?

My filter looks pretty dirty to me, what do you guys think? I've had it for about 10k miles. Does it look like it needs to be cleaned?

How exactly do I clean it? Is this the oiled or non-oiled version?

First take a strong vacuum and suck out the dirt from the outside. Then you can try one of those filter cleaning products. Pep boys sells one for their generic dry filters. You spray it on the outside and let it soak for about 10 minutes. Then gently run water in from the inside pushing the dirt out. Then let it fully dry before installing. Just be careful not to use really hot water as it may cause the material to shrink a bit.

Yup,
Like he said...I have had my AFE since 08 and that is how I have cleaned mine. I clean mine out via air hose once a month since it is a 2 minute fix.
