Can't isolate small rattle under dash.
No big deal, nothing to do with how the car runs, I love it, and never hear on smooth or halfway smooth roads.
But the highway going to my sisters, and my church has a 4 mile stretch with a rough texture and with my OCD the rattle I hear then drives me crazy. I drive a 2007 Yaris sedan with MT. It is not the glove box, door panel, kick panel, etc. I removed the glove box and the cover for the AC filter felt loose so I wrapped tape around it for testing purposes. Stuck my hand everywhere and could feel nothing loose. Picked up my cousin who is a genius with mechanical stuff and we drove up and down and could not isolate the rattle. Is it something I need to learn to live with? It sounds like it must be deep within the dash on the passenger side. Again, its not bad, and only on roads with rough textures on the surfaces. Once I get a manuel I'll be able to look and see what all is going on behind the dash, etc... Thank you. |

You may have something down in the defrost vent. I don't think it would be a rattle down in there though, maybe some coins etc. I would post some photos of what it looks like under the dash when you pull it apart, but I'm at work right now...no employer names please...LOL.

I'm almost sure it is the cluster trim. Mine did that since day 1. I even went to the dealer when it was still under warranty. They applied the same fix as the 07 Camry. Ie removed the dash, and completely isolate the contact points. But that didn't fix the problem, and while driving a friends, the only thing that I spotted that could move was the cluster trim piece. So I told my friend to put his hand on it and that stopped the rattle. A few foam pieces on the contact points and voila. No more.
Though, the ODBII port rattles too... |

Next time you are driving and you hear the rattle. Try pressing pressure on parts of the dash to make it go away. Try the "A" pillar, instrument cluster, cluster garnish and vents.

Lol I have a rattle in the engine bay. No idea where it might come from. But hitting the rad support seems to rattle... It's an old car. I have beating it around. I'll keep it as long as I can, but I'm not expecting much, even trying to keep it pristine.

I have a 2007 red sedan the same as yours only automatic. The car had two rattles in the dash when I bought it. One rattle was the thin strip around the top of the instrument cluster. I gently raised the strip with a small flat screwdriver and with a toothpick put weatherstrip adhesive underneath it. Held it for 5 minutes until it set and it hasn't rattle since. The second rattle seemed to be coming from the left side air vent. I couldn't find the rattle until I went into the engine bay. The fan behind the radiator is held onto the radiator by two metal tangs on the fan that go into two plastic holders. The one on the left side of the fan was loose. I zipped tied the fan into place and the rattle was gone.

Thank you, the rattle could be anywhere, and I suspect it could be on the other side of the firewall.

i feel it is under the radio, try the clips of the metra dash kit. try to use the OEM clips. it's hard to explain but the deep part after the bulging part is deeper with aftermarket, which means it's not flush with the hole. that causes the clip to rattle.
it's similar to the 3 clips on the upper area on the pic, the deep part i'm talking about is near the right end of the clip. |

. The dash in my 2007 Yaris never rattled until the front end fender bender in October of last year. My 2014 Yaris dash sometimes rattles/creaks....that will likely be all but forgotten once I dig the JL Audio, etc. stereo from my Suzuki out of storage and have it installed in that Yaris....the volume will probably never be low enough to hear a rattle or a creak .
