New Car Odor

I've just 400 miles on my brand new Yaris. Since the day it rolled off the showroom floor, I've thought the interior new car smell was a bit wierd. But I haven't driven a new car in over fifteen years, so I attributed the smell to new high tech plastics. My buddy, who owns an Rav4, says it smells like his Rav4 when the air filter is bad. Today, it was humid and hot, and the car smelled worse than ever. It's starting to remind me of smelly unwashed gym cloths. What should I do?

I checked under the seats. There's no dead animal.

Check to see if you have a cabin air filter installed. It's behind the passenger lower glove box. Run your AC on fresh air instead of recirc all the time. Search for smelly Yaris in this forum and read the posts

I figured out that the smell is actually coming from the fabric on the seats! I'm leaving the window down, to air the smell out.

My Yaris is three years old and still has that "new car smell" in it. I attribute it to the plastics, which it has an abundance of. The longer it sits locked up, the stronger the smell. I kinda like it, but I'm not sure if it's that good for me!

By the way, where are you in Texas?

Cheers! M2

I was told seats are made out of recycled material. Yes, made with trash. I was hoping the smell will go away, but you say three years. Oh no.
