1st Gen ECU Options

Hey guys,

I'm slowly piecing together a turbo setup for my 1st Gen Echo Hatch (JDM Vitz)

I've been looking at a few ECU options, namely the AEM FIC & Greddy E-manage Ultimate.

Upon reading the description on the MircoImage listing, it says the FIC is for OBD-II vehicles, my car does not have that port.

My question is, will it still work on my car?

The local tuner in my country uses chipped Honda computers, he normally replaces the Toyota distributors with a Honda variant however my car uses coil-packs so I'm a bit skeptical. He did say he can tune AEM computers.

He recently bought an Evolution 6 to work on, he replaced the stock coil-packs with a Honda Distributor and the car is running well.

Another question, how to I convert the stock MAF setup to a MAP setup?

Thanks

If you wish to get rid of the MAF that's fine. I think the tuner you have will be better tuning that way considering the way he choses to tune now. MAP is what it looks to be his way of tuning anyways. I'd consider using FuelTech in your case, it will be the easiest way to tune and delete your MAF. Lots of guys in Puerto use it and it's very user friendly. Stay away from AEM FIC and Greddy, both have issues and horrible tech support not to mention their dated. Keep your coil on plug much better than distributor. Do a little digging around on Google for FuelTech and you will find it to be a very good choice. It even comes with a touch screen controller. I think your tuner with his experience will like this. Good luck.

The FuelTech seems to be a great device however it's a bit over budget, my best bet seems to be a Haltech Sprint 500

The F/IC would be fine for your car. It does not actually require the vehicle to be OBDII compliant to use it. The feature of it over a standalone is that if your vehicle is OBDII compliant you will not lose that compliance with the F/IC, whereas you will lose it with most standalones.

Sprint500 is still a great choice. Still much better than an AEMFIC.
