Lightbulb Tuning Music ?

Any of you guys have any suggestion on some songs for tuning in a system. Theme music, Regular music, rock rap country.

I pretty much listen to everything, but want something that covers a wide range of frequencies.

Any cd that is DDD recording. I use Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" and Madonna "Immaculate Collection" alot. Also anything from Telarc or Sheffield labs.

NOOOOO! This damned site just timed out my flippin' novel of a response!

...

I'll keep it short. I'll disagree with the DDD statement. Just because everything is recorded digitally, doesn't mean it was recorded well. There's more to a great recording than just the digital equipment used.

...

Sheffield, Telarc, Mapleshade, Verve, FIM, Sony Classical, etc. There are many labels that have spectacular recordings.

How about format? HDCD, SACD, XRCD...I'm on an XRCD kick right now.

...

I'm still fuming from losing my repsonse

...

Give me a more specific range of questions and I'll be happy to go into choices and the reasons behind them.

Edit:

Off the top of my list right at this moment (the list is ever changing and draws from thousands of tracks I've collected)...

These Bones - Fairfield Four

Take Love Easy - Ella Fitzgerald & Joe Pass

Brushes & Brass - Clark Terry

True Blue - Luka Bloom

The Raiders' March - Erich Kunzel & the Cincinnati Pops

I'm Your Bass Creator - Basshunter

The 1812 Overture...Performed LIVE with real carbide cannons. MWAHAHAHA!!!!

The thing is, I have SOOOOO many tracks to choose from. Literally, I could play my snobby tracks for days before I repeated! AKK! I'm overloading myself here thinking about what to recommend...

A buddy of mine uses Disney's Little Mermaid soundtrack for tuning high end audio systems. According to him it's one of the best quality recordings he's found and has excellent dynamic range.

AM - I'm listening to Beat Dominator right now...It's making me smile. It's sort of silly..."can you hear me?" LOL At this moment if I'm looking at bass tracks, I'll go for the more Euro/club/industrial type sound. ...HOLY CRAP! I just got to the multiple bass beat part of the song! I'm on ATH700 cans and I can imagine what this with 1200 Watts on two 12's would do! Holy smokes!

Here's more:

Cannon in D - All Star Percussion Ensemble

Over The Rainbow - Celtic Woman

Get Up, Stand Up - Lee Ritnour

Winter Games - The Chris Walden Big Band

Pride and Joy - Kevin Mahogany

If you're going to track these down, look at the record label as well. Make sure you're not getting a lesser quality recording.

Old guy non-audiophile:

The Police - "Roxanne" for highs. The cymbals will sound awful if you're not set up properly.

David Essex - "Rock On" for the lows. The best, lowest "real rock song" bass line ever.

Pink Floyd - "Mother" for well-rounded everything else. (or, hell, why not just play the whole album?)

stay away from anything hiphop... reason being is that there is usually a strong bass line in it, and quite frankly, it's hard to tell if there is too much bass in hip hop songs.

Also, try to tune with something you are familiar with.... get familiar with music that is well recorded.

Okay is there any software you can buy to get a clean evenly burnt cd ? I've seen Audacity is a decent program, is there any other recommendations for making a CD of Various types of music.

burning mp3's to a cd isn't a good idea... if you are burning from a cd to a cd that is different... CD's cut out a lot of musical data in order to help with compression. Even if you run a "lossless" bit rate you still lose data, especially on the highs & lows.

Yeah, that Beat Dominator stuff is totally old school, and it is really silly.

It makes me smile too, so I play it every once in awhile.

Sage advice.

I like RUSH, the digital remasters.

"Tom Sawyer" kicks hard, and "Leave That Thing Alone" is a great instrumental song.
