oil sweat for '07 YARIS RS check engine on

I recently bought a '07 RS which is supposed to replaced my '09 LE having only 59k vs 171k of the '09

Maybe I shouldn't have bought the '07 : when I got it the oil was like it was coming from a diesel - VERY dark - ... car only had 4,000km from the last oil change but those km were done in ... 4.5 years !!

Anyway, I drained the old oil, let the filter there, then put 3l of fresh oil, let the car run for 6-7 min , drained the fresh oil again, changed the filter and now the dipstick is showing a nice light colour. Hopefully the engine wasn't affected by that 4-5 years old oil.

However I noticed that there was a sweating coming from a sensor - oil sensor maybe ? - down on the filter and oil pan. That sensor sits about 10cm higher than the oil filter.

Also, the check engine is ON. It might have something to do with that sweating , however I will go to a mechanic to pull some codes but should I ask him to tight that sensor or the nut ? That's where the sweating comes from.

So far I have had 3 YARISes - '06 RS, '07 RS and '09 LE - and never had any sweating with any of them.

Check the sensor is tight. Iirc it is an NPT thread meaning it has tapered threads so you can always reinstall with pipe tape if needed but don't quote me on that. I doubt that the CEL is due to the oil leak. Also top up your oil, last I did an oil change on a 1nz it took 3.7L with an empty filter.

Imho I would have taken the higher mileage car over a low mileage car that clearly sat a lot. You know a lot about the history and maintenance of your current car- more so than someone else's car you're buying. Cars sitting are never a good thing. When ever I buy a used car I look for the ones with the high mileage that saw a bunch of highway miles. They are lower in price because so many people care about mileage - at the end if the day these engines reliably go past 400k km if maintained so a 300k km engine isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Thank you for the input tmontague !
There's a bit of thread remained in between the metal nut of the sensor and the engine but same is for the good '09 LE. I have to do an insurance inspection anyhow so will ask the mechanic to tight the sensor and to pull some codes.

I put 300,000km on all my 3 x YARISes in the last 6 years as those were my dedicated pizza delivery cars. I happened to have my first '06 RS when I started to do that job and I was very happy realizing that there's no better car for that - manual 4 doors hatch YARIS - ... maybe HONDA FIT/JAZZ would be close or as good but not better. I tried 2 during those years but my YARIS addiction was too high.
So I buy the cars with very low mileage - around 60k km - and sell them when they are close to 200k. I read that the engine can take much more but although I didn't experience any major investment during those years I thought that some expenses are inevitable when the car will have 200-300k.
But considering how good YARIS is it might be only about the regular maintenance and a clutch/alternator replacement when it's the case.

I have to mention one more thing :
When I switched from '07 RS to the '09 LE - both 4-doors hatchs - I thought I will never get used to the soft seats with no good side support of the LE. The car felt much softer and I had the impression that not even the handling was on par with the RS. Took me almost 2 weeks to get used to.
Now, driving an '07 RS I can feel again the difference : not only in the firmer seats but overall the car seems to have NOTICEABLE better handling than the softer '09 LE ! When going around traffic circles with 50km/hr the RS definitely feels better planted on the road ... same when going in the city with 70-80km/hr , the steering seems tighter kinda of difference between a CAMRY LE and an ACCORD.

Are all my feelings coming from the seat difference or the RS DOES have a better tuned suspension ? Also, the RS feels heavier !

I think showing the engine to the mechanic would be the right decision. No one knows how long he drove with this oil, and what damage could cause the engine. I usually use the driveroo app in such cases and contact the nearest certified mechanic for an inspection. If you do not have a permanent specialist , it is very convenient.
