Cool Bought my first Celica GTS

Found this car on Craigslist for super cheap. It has an engine issue I need to figure out and some other small items to attend to. PLEASE subscribe to my channel if you are interested in this because I won’t be posting the updates on here since this is Celica related. Thanks guys!https://youtu.be/fDRIp75_8Ds

2000 Toyota Celica GT-S hatchback. Way back when Toyota actually built good looking cars.

good looking and celica aren't..... the first things that come to mind, that said the celica did offer a certain flare that I think was lost out on most people after 2006. sadly. came with a bitchin 6 speed and rad motor, and i think it was highly regarded by Consumer reports as one of the best cars for new drivers

Thanks guys.

I totally agree that the GTS and XRS cars were innovative cars for Toyota at the time. SuperStreet did a comparison between the B18C and 2ZZGE back in 01’, of course they chose the Honda engine in the end(they’re fan boys) due to the earlier VTEC point. The 2zz made more power and torque though.

After the 2zz all the Toyota FWD crowd had was the tC, witch wasn’t the same on any level. I’ve always been a fan of the 00’-06’ sports cars, and I’m excited to experience this for the first time.

what year GTS? 02 is the best year, iirc. high redline, low lift, etc.

find an xrs intake manifold for more power on the cheap...i might have a friend with a few kicking around, now that i think about it.

congrats on the new car...sell the yaris yet?

cool car man, I saw one at the track last week and we had some fun but other than that I rarely ever see any around here - all rusted out by now.

Is your plan to race autox again with this platform or is this just a project car for youtube material?

Whats happening w/ your 2zr Vios?

Shame that cars like this, the Honda Prelude & Acura Integra/RSX went away.

This is a 2000. How does the XRS intake manifold differ from the GTS?

No one has made a serious offer on the Yaris, not sure what the fate of that car is yet.

This Celica will be a good run of video and blog content, and in the end I will sell it too.

celica is a 1 piece manifold, the xrs is a 2 piece. its part of the reason the xrs dyno's about 10whp more than the celica.

angle of TB is different, however

I've actually got a 2-piece manifold from a 2ZZ Vibe GT in my garage. I can do pics for reference.

Easily solved: 2ZR swap it..

Congrats on the fun car! The Celica should be a hoot to play around with.. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Interesting.....I’m intrigued. What is the solution for the different throttle angle? XRS or aftermarket intake maybe?

Haha, unfortunately that’s not possible due to the bell housing mounts used in the Celica chassis. You have to use the 1zz/2zz C56 or C60 bell housing that have the starter at 10:00 vs the 2zr/1nz at 9:00

After doing a good amount of research on this I’ve found that the difference in power numbers was due to changes in how the power is measured. Everyone on all of the Toyota forums mentions this and how the dyno numbers from all 2zz cars is about the same.

I don’t know, over the years I’ve consistently seeing Celicas dyno about 10 wheel horsepower less with intake headers and exhaust versus matrix and Corolla XRS’s

To Tom's point, could it be wheel dyno vs. dynojet?
