^that's a pretty good price for 2017 if you're talking about the regular Yaris and not the iA. There were only two in my whole city that weren't iAs and they wanted almost $18,000 for just the L trim! I'm sure the price could have been negotiated lower, but not $5,000 lower.

For comparison my 07(auto) sedan was $15,000ish and the bare-bones 08(manual) lift back was less than $13,000.

Yep, the Yaris hatchback (not iA), L trim level, 3 door, with automatic transmission. There's only a few left and I think the 5 door model is more desirable among the general public, hence the large markdown.

My wife can't stand that front end, so we passed. She said, "it's so hideous that it's kinda cute, but still hideous." Haha!

I dont get why they try to markup an economy car brand, esp an L model, thats hosing. 18,xxx should get you a new SE, fully loaded spoiler, wheel locks carpet mats, etc. 18k for an L is like asking 18k for a broom without a brush.

hate the 2 tone paint and dont care for the grey SE wheels

its not looking good so far but i will reserve judgement until i see it in person

^^^ Front end is hideous. Two-tone paint scheme makes no sense. Those directional wheels in any colour are fugly... and the Bridgestone Turanza tyres are crap.

Yep. For the record I find the 2018 aesthetically unpleasing as well.

"Aesthetically unpleasing" is a very nice way of saying it.

I do agree with justanotherdrunk that when I saw the 2017 Yaris in person, it didn't look as bad to me as in the pictures. But then again, I don't really want to buy a car that "doesn't look as bad to me as in the pictures."

Lots of people must like the whale/frog-like front end design or Toyota wouldn't have adopted it throughout their vehicle lineup.

As someone who likes the unorthodox styling look of the 2015-2017 (SE equipped version only), I still find the 2018 front to be overdone and taken to a new, unsavory extreme. It definitely has that frog/fish look to it now - something I don't see when looking at the 2015-2017 version Yaris (which reminds me more of a spunky little cute mammal-rodent, if anything).

For very nearly the same price, you can pick up an iM, which has everything the Yaris SE does (minus the oddly overlooked fog lights - WTH Toyota?), plus lots of other things neglected from the Yaris SE - such as side-mirror blinkers, power-folding mirrors, stainless-steel exhaust tip, nicely integrated & attractive rear-bumper reflectors, Nice looking LED tail lights, Nicer climate control system, Nicer interior materials/features in general, larger cargo area, better suspension setup, color-matched shark-fin antenna, etc. etc.

^^^ Minus the ground effects add-ons, the ugly spoiler, and the juvenile directional wheels, it's a very nice little car... and with dealer discounts and rebates, it will probably be cheaper than a fully equipped Yaris.

Wish it were available in basic trim in the US.

Yeah, the ground effects kit (and big (though optional) rear spoiler) is a bit over the top and clearly aimed at teenagers and younger drivers. Now that the iM isn't a 'one option only' Scion anymore, Toyota should break it up into an LE (No skirt kit, perhaps more conservative/traditional variant front-end) and SE (the way it is now).

Also, not sure what is up with those newer 'upside down' looking headlights. They look sort of weird to me.

I'm not a huge fan of that directional wheel design either. I would prefer something like along the lines of the old Matrix XRS wheels. Those were SEXY.

And of course, they have the cooler LED headlights and factory fog-lights, in the upper trim levels. I really really hate the U.S. car market, lol.

We have 3 trim levels available her in Australia.

Bqse model only has 2NZ-FE engine. Top of line ZR gets bi-led headlamps and factory alloy wheels. Thankfully, the Toyota Saftey Sense is optional on all trim levels, so you aren't stuck with it.
