Shows just how ridiculously small the original Mini was.

The current Mini, much larger of course, is longer than the iQ. However, it is lower and wider.

I grew up in the UK, and the Yaris still feels like a medium-sized car. My last car there was the Fiat 126 (more modern Fiat 500, body-wise, with a 650 engine). That thing was shorter than the original Mini (and slower).

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I drove Minors for 30 years, and the Yaris feels more like my old Volvo, the Yaris is not small nor is the BMW Mini.

i can't believe how much a yaris towers over a CRX [when i pass or get passed by one].

i had a mgb once but really wanted a midget.

almost bought a 600 honda cvcc once but i was $125 short. he wanted $550 for it..

Amazing the American perception is towards car size. The Yaris sedan is along the lines of the old '80's Camry's (especially cab size/interior volume). The Camry just had a longer hood.

Now, general Americans look at a Yaris and think tiny and toyish.

Where I grew up, we had every auto known to Man, I think: Goggomobiles, Lloydwagen, Messerschmitt, Bond, plus stuff I don't remember any more. A Minor was small, but not REALLY small. The Mini was smaller by a bit. Most of it was imported either by little dealers or the Military, along with the Astons, MB300s, Humbers, on and on... What an education!

I can, seeing that I used to own one and it's amazing how much wider and higher the Yaris is. I have photos of the CRX next to the Yaris somewhere... and you can see a big difference, especially when you try to park it on a narrow city parking spot.

Nash Metropolitan. Quite a few around (I even had friends as a kid whose parents drove one "for real")

just found it on the net. theres a few metropolitans around new braunfels, but nobody's using one for a daily driver.

oldest car i see on the road on a daily basis is a 56 chevy 4 door..

Cars keep getting bigger and bigger. Granted, there are vehicles such as the Smart ForTwo, etc. However, even a Yaris is quite a bit bigger than, say, a 1980s Toyota Starlet, which was consiered a "small car" back in the early 1980s. A Honda Civic is now the size the Accord was in the the early-to-mid 1990s. I had a 1979 Honda Civic 1200. That was a small car.

My first car was a 1950 Ford Prefect; remember those, SailDesign? Most of the ones around our area were converted into Trials Cars, which were a colossal blast, particularly with "fiddle brakes" (2 parking brake handles, one for each rear wheel). Even my first Minor came without a heater, an aftermarket item, the pump being driven off the back of the fan belt...

The Minor never changed dimensions over its 30 year production run, and mercifully the original Prefect wasn't around that long, with it's 21gp (Gerbil Power) flathead and it's 46" track. God, what a disgusting excuse for a car...

Oh, yeah - definitely remember the Prefect. My Mum's best friend had one, and hitting the beach with 4 kids in the back seat was tight....
Haven't heard "fiddle brakes" referred to in years - a friend had them on his autotest Mini back in the 70's. Used to trailer it to the events as it didn't have a 4th gear (removed for weight).
