curious...

Why is it called the '2007' Yaris in the US? Is that how you distinguish models in the US? Or is it just a marketing gimmik? Cos here its 2005 Yaris as the build date is Oct05.

In the US every year the model name will get updated to the current year even if there are no changes to the car. So in the year 2007 the Yaris is called "2007 Yaris" and in the year 2008 the car would be called "2008 Yaris" even if there is no change at all to the car.

The US isnt getting the car until this march/april/may so its going to be called a 2007 model instead of 2006. In the US, If a car is introduced past March of that year, it gets the next year's name (i guess a ploy to make the car sound more advanced, but its the tradition here for years and years and years). So for example, if I walk into any car dealership in June of 2006, most of the cars I would be looking to buy would be 2007 models.

I also have had the privilege of driving a 06 Yaris in 05. It is the system here. Even the insurance agent did not dispute my car's 06 model year status when I bought insurance for it in 05.
