Install kit for 2006 hatchback

I've got a 2006 hatchback and want to replace the stock stereo with a single DIN, but can't find an install kit for the 2006.

even metra only says theirs is good for 2007 and up. is the 2006 different enough to not work with the same kit?

There is no difference between 2006 and 2007. A lot of parts sites will not show 2006 as the US first got the car for the 2007 model year.

hmmm. mine was a lease takeover, so i didn't buy it myself, but the owner's manual says 2006...

Canada got the yaris a year before the US? seems unlikely...

Unlikely or not, we did. Just like we've always had the 5dr, and the US only just now got it with the 2009 model year.

Mine is a 2006 model year, built September 2005.

ya.. the yaris hatchback began its sales in Canada in late 2005 as a 2006 model. I think the first ones were picked up in October 2005.

sedan began sales in late 2006 as a 07 model.
I got mine in october 06

funny story...

i pulled the factory stereo out of my yaris and realized i can install the new one in its place without buying any additional brackets. i can use the stock brackets. it doesn't look great with big gaps all around, but i'm ok with that.

then i pulled the stereo out of my 1986 MR2 to put into the Yaris, thinking i would need to buy another wiring harness.

the harness that i bought for my MR2 at walmart (as i remember) has the one set of wires going into the stereo's harness, but actually includes two sets of plugs for the car side. one fit my old MR2, and the other fit the newer yaris, with only one additional wire to be connected, since the MR2 harness requires a separate ground wire...

so no money spent, and i have my new stereo installed. happy ending.

i think we all already know the OEM brakets works. it is in fact sized for 2 single DIN or 1 DOUBLE DIN radios.

The reason the kit exists, is to cover all those ugly gaps.

yeah, i figured you knew after opening it up, but i jumped over that little piece of information and jumped right to the install kits... my mistake.

this was more for closure in case this thread comes up in a future search.
