I NEED HELP! - Toyota Yaris Forums

Last night I was on the way to grab some beer from the corner store, I ran in and they didnt have what I wanted... hurriedly (liquor sales were about to end) I hopped in my car, put it in reverse and BAM!!!! backed right into a Jeep Cherokee..

It might a gigantic bowl shaped dent in my rear bumper the size of a cereal bowl... most of it popped out just by hand, but there are still 2 really small dents in it and some pretty nasty scratches. Ill post some pictures below.

I guess what I need to know is if you think there is a do it yourself type of job or if you guys think it would just be best if I took it somewhere....

any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I think you got off very light .
The wife did a similar one to that in our yaris , (when it was a week old )
the bumper cracked and blew out the tail light .
But back to yours , a Professional job would mean a full repaint of the rear bumper.

i know i got lucky, but when it happened it felt like the worst day of my life.

my girlfriend kept telling me that I looked like I was going to cry. haha

anyone have experience with body work?

seeing its a black car, you could try using Turtle Waxes black chip-stik (like lipstick kinda thing that is wax). It should at least help mask it, and then put your normal wax over it. Even tho i dont like TW waxes, the stik works. O and dont try using a crayola crayon...i thought it would be the same, nope.

haha well I wasn't drinking beer BEFORE I wrecked.

I could just as easily say if people didn't park, this wouldn't have happened.

The reality is, if I would have been a better driver and looked back before I backed up, this wouldn't have happened.

Thanks for the tip EZ, ill probably try the stick out. Where can I get my hands on one?

your local automotive store or Target/walmart should have it. Unfortunately they only have black and red, i would love to have it in at least silver. The stick is bundled with their wax...so its really up to you if you wanna use their wax, i find it colors up the applicators more than the car.

yeah, yours is pretty minor, not too
much, but you can find what
ezhacke1 recommended, most likely
at an autozone, kragen, and
even pepboys, i like pepboys better
cause they usually have a bigger
variety of things and are usully cheaper.

Another thing you can do is just have
some third party fix it, they shouldn't
charge that much.

The last option
if it really bothers you that much, get a
new bumper, but that's usually the
most expensive option...

yeah, after some research I found a primed rear bumper for 100 bucks online and free shipping.

I think im going to try to work on it myself this weekend. I sure hope it ends up looking good because i really dont want to buy a new bumper, not right now at least.

If all else fails ill just but the new bump and get it painted :/

I rummaged through my garage looking for some rubbing compound to kinda buff out a little bit. I finally found sone and started rubbing away.... I soon thereafter realized it wasn't a clear coat safe compound.

WOOPS! It left the whole corner of my bumper really dull and foggy since it basically destroyed the clear coat.

Since the bumperS finish was basicaly destroyed at this point I decided to get some aerosol touch up and just get down and do a little repaint. I will post pictures of the whole process soon, it actually looks pretty good.
