Trd muffler ?
My next mod for my Yaris might be the TRD muffler, I wouldn't get it til the end of spring. Doing the planning now, so I know how much to save up. I know I can get one from sparks for $305, is that a good price? or is there better muffler's then TRD? What is the average cost to install a axle back exhaust?

I have a Nitto exhaust (brand new for $230ish from Micro Image) and I love it. Installation; you can definitely do yourself. It's like 2 bolts right under the rear of the car.
Or if you want to drive here, I'll do it for free. We're even having a meet in March (check my sig), I could do it then in the parking lot. |

i dig the TRD, but it is NOT quiet... around 2200rpm on a LB it gets a bit boomy...
i've been rocking it for less than a month now... if you wanted to buy me a similar muffler and drive to upstate NY, i'd do a swap with you real quick :) |

I prefer the Tanabe Medallion if you are looking for an axle back.
Excellent quality, fit and sound. Easy bolt-on installation. Get it from Garm.

I'm ready to get an aftermarket muffler ,it's between these two TRD muffler and the Tanabe Medallion touring muffler which is better, but here's my question about how much will I be charged to get installed at a muffler shop, I just need a ballpark amount that they will charge?

honestly, it takes a "first timer" about 15 minutes to do this. A pro will take maybe 10. If they want to charge you more than $20 bucks I'd go somewhere else. Its seriously that easy.

It is a bolt-on job with the Tanabe Medallion axle back. Should take no more than 15 minutes max. Never did a TRD one, so I can't comment.

TRD is the same, an axleback. Two bolts and two rubber hangers, thats all she wrote.

I set up my power tools with the right socket and had a friend help me back when I put the Medalion Touring on my car. I wish I had a video of it - 4 mins 28 secs.

On a small car like the Yaris, install is very simple! Axle back or even cat back should take you no longer than 20 minutes or for first timers no more than 30 minutes.
In my opinion I would look up both on YouTube and see if videos are available to hear the sound difference. Then make your choice on which sound you like! Tim |

Does anybody have links for the performance results of the various exhausts? From listening to sound clips I liked the sound of the Thunder and Tanabe exhausts but I'm wondering what performance advantages they offer if any?

Don't do it. The noise inside the car is unbearable. I'm still looking for a quieter exhaust.
Listen 50 sec. into the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05RZSyraA5Y

I have the trd exhaust on my car.
It didn't take very long to install at all, about 10 minutes, and I enjoy it quite a bit. It is a tad loud, but if you know how to drive normally its not too much more than a low rumble when you're inside the car. Its not high pitched (something I was trying to avoid) and doesn't look like a huge watermelon-cannon strapped to the back of your car. On the highway, its a steady, mellow sound that I've found quite soothing. Granted, I'm used to driving around in a friend's wrx with a pro-drive exhaust (deeper and more rumble to it) but I like it all the same. As for performance gains, I'll say that they are slim to none right now. The exhaust is the first of a few things I'll be doing to my car, including mid pipe, headers, and cai, but I got it at a great price from another yarisworld member, so I couldn't pass it up!

If you can find the V. S TRD muffler, it's not loud and on the dyno adds just over 2hp. It's the JDM version, so good luck finding it. I just sold mine used for $350.

TRD Axle-back installation.
Completed in the driveway while the wifey cooked dinner. 20 minutes max. including dragging the tools from the basement and the clean-up afterward. Two bolts on the flange, two rubber hangers. A straight remove and replace. One ratchet and socket (or a spanner). It's a no-brainer.
