Smile Yaris WRC - Finally

I've been following the rumours for some time and can pretty much confirm that Toyota is going to be returning to WRC and it is a Yaris. Now, this isn't the R1A rally car (really a pace car) that first came out in 2012/13. This is a 'from the ground up' totally new WRC build. I can't find any info on the motor or chasis all I can tell is it's turbo and not N/A like the R1A. Any one have any more info on this? It would be cool if the base of the motor is a 1.5 1nz. Here are some test videos that have been popping up on Youtube. The 2014/15 yaris owners must be happy to see their body style being utilized in WRC, I'm sure they will have a lot of success with this platform - Thank the heavens they didn't run their WRC campaign on the matrix or corolla platform. Hopefully this will help improve hurting Yaris sales.

apparently this won't be entered in WRC until 2017... Seems to me like they are ahead of schedule.

this thing is sexy...

If anyone has any more info please feel free to chime in!

That thing is a beast! Glad to see a Yaris back in the game after such a long absence.

What would be amazing is if this rally car prompts Toyota to release a turbo variant to the public. Like what ford did with the fiesta ST. Dear god I would pick one up so fast. I almost bought a fiesta ST but when I heard it was manufactured in mexico I passed. Nothing against mexico, just their track record with manufacturing cars isn't the greatest. Toyota japan reliability and turbo = amazing! Even if its built in France like the new gens' I'd still go for it.

Yea, been following this on the facebook page for the past couple of months. We will see. I read that it won't get to run til 2016.. Something with another redesign in either 2015 or 2016. I would have to look it up again.

I doubt Toyota would make the Vitz a hot hatch like the Fiesta ST. I bet that if i was in the market for a car when the Fiesta ST was out id get that instead of the current Yaris.

But in 2009, it was either the Yaris or the Fit.

Nice find! Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Because that looks like 5 cylinders to me.

The fiesta was released late 2008 as a 2009 in North America. I'm sure it existed but the yaris was such a beauty that you didn't even take notice to the fiesta. ;)

Yeah you're right. I only got 3 hours of sleep. And I'm seeing doubles. It actually looked like a 10 cylinder but I didn't have the balls to publicly say it haha

They actually have made a few turbo Yari w/ 150hp. I swear the early TS's were all turbo 1.5.

Yeah they did. JDM and euro markets only. Can't see why they wouldn't do it again. The tricky part would be having it come to north america.
