its very expensive to change the rear to discs too, unless you want to clean up stuff from a salvager. See: Rare.

its going to cost in the thousands.

also the discs suck during hard driving such as on the highway or for quick emergency stops :U

Why has a random discussion about rear discs shown up in a thread seeking identification of a drum brake part?

I never stop learning
But seriously, that’s so wrong. Drum brakes have zero like absolutely zero heat dissipation. It’s an enclosed system and the only thing that it’s good, better than disks, is for handbrake usage. Nothing else.

I found it offensive to see manufacters cheap out and still using this system in modern cars. The cost of manufacting a car with full disks rather than disks and drums is almost the same. But I guess they make more money by making this an extra option. And if you want to make the conversion after you buy the car then good luck. You have to change even the handbrake inside the cabin and it cost way more. I don’t know why full disk brakes aren’t mended by the law in 2018 like so many other safety futures when even the slowest modern production car can easily archive 80mph

a swap would cost thousands if you are bent in buyin everything retail off a stealership. 1000 bucks is usually plenty to buy a whole used axle and direct swap it in. The few people i know that did an axle swap here in USA paid farr less than "thousands". This applies to being shipped to usa from japan or the local junkers in usa. The handbrake change is just swapping of cables, if the axle is complete (often it is)

i can do that work myself, i have the GSIC manual, so it would be 405 dollars plus some pizza and beer to have someone do a disc swap. but then your also looking at discs and other BS. so 1000 before labor.

you took that too literally, since american yaris dont really have any options except for some crap like a trunk net, SE would be the 'option' you could have taken. yaris in europe has a whole ton of trims and options i just put it all in an umbrella term.

if you cant get a 3door or an L with disc brakes when a ford used to come standard with discbrakes and just as safe safety features whats the exuse for shelling out nearly 19-20k for a new yaris with disc brakes and the rest that go for 15- 18 with DRUMS.
