And a Prius has proven to be as reliable as anything Toyota makes and I want reliability too.

Although when it gets old maybe not....

For me the Yaris does it best!

The two biggest reasons for me would be knowing I wasn't burning gas while sitting in traffic (not because of the environment...because it is a waste of money ) and the remote (or unusual location) all climate sleeping solution. If I wasn't sure to use it for the latter (a real time decision at that point....when my Yaris has many more miles on it), the former wouldn't be enough of a reason to get one.

The only thing about a hybrid is it will get 44 mpg in town where 90% of driving happens.

If you are blessed with a high percentage of driving on the highway, no, you really DO NOT want a hybrid on many levels.

Economically speaking!

Bronsin , thanks , aware the C or other Prius would get better city . Had an '07 Prius 2 . There's a hybrid conversion kit for $2000 or so . Installed on the back wheels . That would be interesting combined with the sedan or the hatchbacks .

I get 50+ MPG city driving consistently, and if I'm "hwy" driving at speeds of 50-55 MPH, I can get 60 MPG.

60-65 is as slow as I would go on the highway and even then, there are safety and practical considerations as to why that might not be a good idea.

My 2001 ECHO would get 53 mpg at those speeds.

Finally, you REALLY go 50-55 on the highway!?!

Ya, I wish the Yaris would get as good MPG as the old Echo. Seems strange.

Hwy - 50-55 yes, Interstate, no.....

I go 55-60, but I always stay in the slow lane.

Some parts of Interstate-45 between the North Interstate-610 Loop in Houston and the border with Montgomery County have a 60 MPH Speed Limit. Same with parts of the North I-610 Loop.

You could also drive in most aprts of Canada as the speed limit is usually 100km/hr.

Yep.....and most of the Trans-Can Hwy route that I drove = in good condition....EXCEPT the part between the Alberta/Saskatchewan border (east of Edmonton) and Saskatoon .

To get a similar Yaris, it would be more on par with the 5 door SE, which is $16,540 MSRP.

Prius - $19,080
Yaris SE - $16,540

Difference - $2540. Not too shabby.

I know not everybody wants all those extra features, but let's try to compare apples to apples here.
If you really want to save money always buy a used car. I picked up my 08 last week for $5K , only 90,000KM and a perfect car proof check on it. Very happy with it and the mileage has been great, I'm on my second tank and have over 250KM on it so far and only one bar is missing off my fill guage. :)

Used priuses are very rare cause I think the original owner is still trying to break even. :) The cheapest prius around me right now is a 2005 with 130,000KM on it and they are asking 10K
