2009 maintenance intervals?
I'm a newbie here with a new 2009 Yaris liftback and after reading my maintenance manual booklet there is a question I'd like to ask of this group. If there are similar threads I apologize in advance. Looking at the recommended proceedures for each 5K miles I see no mention of flushing and refilling the engine coolent, brake fluid or standard transmission fluid. As a 62 year guy maybe I'm out of date on this stuff but all the previous cars I've run have called for these fluids to be changed at some point in time. Are the Toyotas that come out now so advanced technically that these fluids are good for the life of the car? What's the deal with this?
Thanks in advance for your INFORMED comments. Lewis |

Coolant and transmission should be done somewhere around 60k-100k depending on driving habits. I'm at 70k on a 07, and I did the transmission at 60(didn't really need it) and haven't flushed the coolant. Mostly highway on flat land and you could go much much longer on the tranny fluid.
Brake fluid should last even longer, as its just a hydraulic fluid. I might drain and refill mine just for fun at 200k or 5 years. |
