door locks

I noticed that you cannot open the door from the inside if it is locked. I have accepted this (as being completely retarded and unsafe), but I just got to thinking. Is it working as its supposed to or is there something wrong?

I have a U.S. spec 3 door.

same with mine here, though when I turn off the ignition they unlock.

annoying "feature", but you get used to it.

I am installing power locks and alarm in a few weeks. Hopefully there is a feature that will unlock the doors when the ignition turns off.

I take it you guys do not have the "keyless" entry feature?

I just push one of the two Lock/Unlock Buttons.

you mean that the door is unlocked and you cannot open it?? (definitely something wrong, since u should be able to open an unlocked door) OR do u mean that the door is locked and you cannot open it?? (arent all vehicles this way? you cannot open a locked door, otherwise you would be defeating the purpose of the lock, duh!!) OR do you mean that you cannot unlock your door from the inside AND therefore cannot open it?? (this would be a terrible design flaw)

we had the same feature with our sienna, and had the delaership turn off the auto-unlock. however, we did like the auto-lock when you place the van into gear, that feature we kept. hope this helps...

If you read my post carefully you would see exactly what I meant.

In the car
door is locked
pull the door handle
door does not open

Unlock door
pull the door handle
door opens

Any car I have ever driven would open the door no matter what. When you pulled the handle the lock would open and the door would open.

What if your in a car accident and you are disoriented. It would make it that much more difficult to get out.

When I install my power locks I will figure a way to fix it so the lock pops open when you pull the handle.

Bring it back to the dealer, the door should be unlock (No matter lock or unlock before) once you pull the handle.

We checked it out on a drive to the mall. We do not have this FEATURE.

Almost lost the wife when she tried (and did) open the locked door by pulling on the door handle on the way out of the driveway!

I don't want this "feature"... if I'm so disoriented I won't remember to unlock, I wouldn't be able to unclip the seat belt. The idea that kids fooling around can open the door ever if locked is Scary.

here is a list of cars I have owned that opened even if the doors where locked.

1983 Buick Electra
1997 Ford Escort
1986 Mercury Topaz
1999 Mustang
1989 Camaro
1983 Dodge Omni

2001 Dodge Neon
2003 PT cruiser
1998 Ford Expedition

You didnt even have a choice on the Topaz or Mustang, both of the locks went 90% of the way into the door panel.

If you can't trust a kid not to open the door of a moving car they have no business being in the front seat.
