Hydrodip!!!!!!

anyone play with hydro-dip???

it's super fun! but it is difficult to get it right. I had to do a lot of practice dips before I felt comfortable to do my engine cover. it even has some flaws and issues, bit overall it turned out good. I did the other plastic parts too. my buddy says it looks super gay with it's rainbows and gold, but I think it looks good.

here is the before:

here is the part's after repainting and the dipping:

here they are after install. you see I covered the red "Tanabe" area with a sticker. I did not like how the red looked.

it was fun. here is some tips:

-the bathroom fan has insufficient ventilation for dipping. (HA!)
-you don't need to wait 60 seconds to apply activator, just wait for the paper to "de-wrinkle." I had a few sink below waterline on a corner wile waiting.
-you will use more activator than it seems you need to. you pretty much have to over do it. this was my problem as I don't want to be wasteful. but if you don't spray enough, the ink will bind and you get tiny bubbles that pop and create holes in the pattern. I would do 3 or 4 cross hatch coatings, and I probably should have done 6. (really!)
-your best dip is the first dip. after the water gets activator and ink residue in it affects the following dip. I recommend doing a bunch of testers/small things, then changing water for fresh and then doing the big pretty thing.

Love it. Not a rainbow fan, but super cool nonetheless.

it's not rainbow! it's just a multi-colored matrix of colors.
jeez...
