No Oil Checking - Common Seriously ?

Hi, I recently went to the dealer as I just bought a 2012 Yaris, it is nice, I got some nice rims on it :) (I was going to buy the Scion IQ but you can't put no one in the back) I asked if I needed Engine Oil and Coolant the dealer who sold me the car told me no. I also asked if I need to check the oil stick also a no. Is he pulling some wool over my eyes that will cost me in the future or do I literally not have to worry ? When do I need to add engine oil, does the car literally tell me ? I did get a minor scratch on the hood of the car probably due to a rock hitting it, I had to buy a genuine toyota stick, it covered it up, but you can still see it up close where it was scratched, arrgh.

You shouldn't have many problems with the yaris....very reliable. I would suggest you check all fluids (oil, coolant, power steering, trans, brake) every week....even though you probably won't find anything wrong..

I'm new to cars, I was hoping the dealer could show me under the hood to check those things, as I personally don't know how, I know it's not rocket science but I don't want to damage anything or cause any physical injury. He informed me that I don't have to worry. What type of cars are these, transformers ? :)

checking fluids is important in any car. Have someone show you how to do it.

Do youself a favor and read the owners manual. These items you are talking about are explained quite well in there. There are a few twists as far as checking tranny level if automatic and oil as folks have found it is a bit difficult to get an accurate reading say on the plastic dipstick. Me, I would never take to heart what the dealer rep told me or the service rep for that matter. Learn to do the most common things yourself and you will save alot. Good luck with the new car.
