Tomtop ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII Reader

I bought one of these on the 12th, it finally came today. At first I was skeptical, I plugged it in and couldn't detect it with my phone. It took me 15 minutes to realise that CHX is the device's name. Anyway! Plugged it in, finally paired it after searching around and figuring out that the PIN for the bluetooth pairing is "6789" (which wasn't included fyi), and installed "Torque" on my phone. It's available in the Android market for $4.75 or something but it works practically flawlessly.

Here's the link to the reader I got, and the same selling. It ships from Hong Kong so it takes a while but damn, was the wait worth it.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ELM327-OBD2-OBDI...ht_4401wt_1139

With the reader and the app you can see everything including:
Boost
Intake Temp
Throttle %
Acceleration
MPG/KPL
Speedo
Tach

EVERYTHING.

There's a widget option within the program for "raw data" and man, it's an overwhelming amount.

Here's a video I took briefly showing what it can do. Ignore the dialogue, that's my add who I was also showing it to at the time:

So there it is. I am impressed by the device, and wanted to share. Cheerio.

Nice. I bought one from China a couple of years ago, it was more expensive but it was also more compact.

Same size as this one

Yeah I would have much preferred somethign of that size, but oh well. I may relocate the OBDII port to somewhere in the immediate vicinity so that the adapter can be out of sight, and out of the way of my foot which I'm afraid will inadvertently kick the thing.

You can probably get a short cable to attach to it and stuff the unit up under the dash. http://www.obd2cables.com/products/

Nah at this point it's easier to dismount the plug on the car adn move the entire cable assembly up somewhere. It's not forseeable that anybody besides me will need to know where it is for a very long time.

Move it but not so high up somewhere that your dealer/techs can't find it during diagnostics, lol.

My HU isn't very advanced ;) And my car is 3rd hand, from out of my province. So it's got no warranty or dealer support. I don't trust the dealer ship with my car anyway. I'd rather do the work myself or go to a private shop. (Or the mechanics at my work for as logn as I work there/they have the time)
