I have some AMSOIL 75w90 SVG gear oil on the way. Looking forward to putting it in.

Edit: Despite that fact that AMSOIL's site (and a technical rep I emailed) said that the SVG will work in both GL-4 and GL-5 boxes, and is fine for my Yaris, I'm still nervous using it. I may see if I can swap it for the straight GL-4 AMSOIL fluid. Thoughts anyone?

I made a mix (about 80:20) between RedLine MT-90 & MTL, the gearbox definitively feels better & changing gear also on high rpms isn't a problem any more even if I noticed that on heavy load, for example when I push the car very hard for 20/30 minutes, it's noticeable the "slippering" effect... so I was thinking to flush & change again but this time going to test Amsoil GL4 75w90

I think that the severe gear grade is too strong for our transmission, I think I'll stay with standard GL4 Amsoil grade... GMT or GTM right now I don't remember the exact name

what is your opinion on usgin Amsoil GL4 instead of the Severe grade??

I'll be using Amsoil SVG 75w90 as I'm due to drain the factory stuff. I think GL 5 is recommended in my owners manual, 08 yaris, so that's what I got. Plus AX works the car a bit harder sometimes.
I hope you'll consider Trulube.com as your Amsoil dealer.

GL5 has sulpher which will dammage transmissions speced for GL4. (makes sulpheric acid) GL4 trannys have copper etc whcih will be destroyed by GL5 stuff.
Your trials are meaningless since real tests of lubricants last for hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of miles.

agree , stay away from GL-5 . Used MOBIL synthetic GL-5 in a COROLLA that made shifting difficult ( grinding ) and going into reverse a chore ( clunking ) . Stick with a GL- 4 , much better results .

Been there and tried GL-5 too in my transmission by mistake, had to drain it out-total waist of $16 of mobile one gear oil. Ended up going with Redline MT-90 which is GL-4 and recommended for Toyota gear boxes. Just stick with any GL-4

I would consider but I can't because apparently they don't ship outside US & right now I'm in italy

it's almost impossible to find amsoil products outside US, for me it would OK also getting from UK, De, Fr, Ir... every other nation in europe

so the Amsoil 75w90 SVG even if specified as both GL4/5 by the dealer can't be used in a GL4 spec gearbox?? a bit confused...

Since I AX and do track days and since my 08 recommends both, I'm using Amsoil SVG 75w-90.

so your manual says "GL4 or GL5" ?? very strange... they are almost incompatible each other

Yup, confusing but still recommend. My understanding when looking at the SVG 75w-90 is it should be used under harser conditions. Otherwise I would have used the Amsoil GL4.
