Rear drums

Im not removing them for asthetics, i just hate drums. Are there any problems i might encounter by switching my rears to disc?

note: you cant tell im sporting drums in the back, i just hate changing drums out.

IIRC Micro Image sells a kit to swap the drums to disc. I don't see why you'd have any problems as long as you do a proper install.

i hope the kit comes with a proportioning valve...if not, get any prop valve off a yota with discs...or one of the xb/xa's

Depending on your application that will differ.

A proportioning valve will allow you to adust pressure on that line only. It will not divert the pressure from the front to rear or vise-versa. So be mindfull if you put one on. It works on that line only to adust pressure.

A residual valve is what is usually on a drum set-up. This allows the line to hold pressure on the springs for the drums. these usually come in 2lb or 10lb valves.

Most master cylinders are a 70/30 split. This means 70% goes to the front and 30 to the rear. This would be typical of a stock set-up. You can go to an aftermarket one for racing which can be a 60/40 split or even to a 50/50 split. Wilwood Engineering sells these.

However for what your doing none of this should be necsessary. Unless you put some huge 6 piston caliper in the rear.

I converted my drum to disc in my XB and left the M/C and all stock valving alone. I have no issues. No brake fade, no spongey pedal. All works fine.

I've been running the rear disc brake conversion from Micro Image for about a about a year and 9 months now without a problem. You don't need to change the proportioning valve on our cars. Its designed as a direct bolt on. Installation can be done in about 2 hours.

Just wondering.....
Why do you hate them?
If you consider that about 90% of braking is done with the front wheles, rear disks are not even needed for an enconomy car like the Yaris. It's like puting a drag chute on a Piper Cub
So, we are really left with asthetic reasons for wanting rear disks on a Yaris.
