Lightbulb Any good suggestions on how to clean the roof fabric in my car?

I bought my Yaris, than afterwards i realized that the top fabric was horribly dirty, looked like spilled coke or something. Would it be easier to remove the roof fabric and clean it with house cleaning products? or any better suggestions?

Before anything drastic, I would suggest getting one of those fabric cleaners for cars. The ones that come in an aerosol bottle, with the built in brush. I used on my back sit and it worked pretty well. Thanks to my kids, I had all kinds of stains, and they're all gone now. The only catch is to make sure you clean the whole roof, to avoid bigger stains. Especially, if you have a light color roof. After that, I would also recommend to waterproof it. You can get waterproof sprays at any shoe store. It prevents future stains. I hope this helps! Good luck

One more thing, don't rub it too hard. Go easy, and take your time, so you don't damage the fabric.

My car was $7,000 dollars, its a 2007 Hatchback Yaris with 23,000 miles on it. it has some setbacks, but GEEZ, how much did you pay for yours? It already had Tinted windows all around, a nice loud muffler, lowered springs, tainted taillights, top of windshield tint. You DON'T THINK THATS A GOOD DEAL?

Don't sweat it Syro... sometimes the ppl on Yarisworld forget to eat their wheaties in the morning.

Did you buy it from a dealer or an independant? I'm surprised they didn't clean the headliner before selling it.

I got it from a private owner. Is it a PITA to try to remove the roof fabric? it would be so much easier to clean it if i wasn't spraing chemicals in my eyes, and actually see what i'm cleaning.

I'm pretty sure the headliner is one big molded piece and there's a risk you would damage it during removal. I suggest you aim, close your eyes and shoot.

Don't apologize, this is exactly what the forum is for!!

I got something that's gonna make you feel better: I paid more than $9K for my 2007 Yaris (in fact, with all the dealer fees, taxes and stuff, it was close to 10K) AND... the car already had 55K miles. So you see, you got a deal.

On the plus side, my car is in excellent shape inside out (I hope!), except for some minor dings and stuff (paint is thin on the Yarii) and to be fair, the cost of living in California is higher than in many states.

Anyway, enjoy your car and enjoy this forum and don't pay attention to the grumpy ones.

bah, don't let stuff like that get you down!!!

Personally, I think it's great that you got a good deal.
Used cars are never perfect, you know, and in this economy it's really hard to find a good used car at a decent price.

Buying a used 2007 Yaris is a "good bet" according to Consumer Reports.

BTW, you could do worse, you know. The first car I bought here in California was like 20 years older than me, the size of an aircraft carrier, had no heater, no A/C, the radio was stuck on ONE station I absolutely hated, let's see, the stirring was completely off (real hard to make tight turns!), among other things. But it was cheap and it got me from point A to point B without having to ask anyone a ride. By comparison, our Yaris is downright luxurious!

Sorry, I don't know the answer for the fabric liner. I wouldn't try to remove it, might look like sh*t. I'd try to clean it first (but maybe in the Spring, so it can dry) if you can wait that long.

Whoever decided to put fabric up there must have been smoking crack! Vinyl is so much easier to clean!!
