I purchased my 2009 Yaris LB new and so far the water pump and the water pump belt had to be replaced with only 16k miles on the odometer. I had to bring my Yaris back to the dealership three times after the water pump replacement due to coolant leaking. After three trips to the dealership the problem still hasn't been resolved since I've been forced to refill my coolant reservoir once a week due to coolant lost.

Mine with 62k

-Two front seats replaced almost entirely
-Exhaust mid section replaced due to faulty catalytic converters
-Water pump started leaking at 56k
-Manual Transmission replaced at 58k
-Passengers control arm need replacing now, I'm waiting until is destroyed to change it.

There are many other small things that I experienced with the car, I understand is a cheap car but with other cheap car I owned in the past I have never seen so many issues one after the other. I think I'm still going to keep it because I have spend to much of my time getting it to work fine.

Wow, sorry to hear all of your issues that you have encountered. I think that you perhaps got one of the few lemons.

I have 43k over the 4 years and items that have been dealt with outside of personal upgrades are the following:

1) ABS Sensor per TSB
2) Door pillar insulation per Safety Bulletin
3) Missing Cabin Air Filter from dealership...did a DIY Filtrete
4) Reset ECU done by dealership since my gas mileage was all over the map last winter. One tank I could get 34mpg and the next 17, then the nextx could be 25, then 32. Once the dealer reset my ECU and it relearned the mapping it has done great. Might have been because it sat for a year while I was in Afghanistan without a battery.
5) Stock battery died 100% after 3 years. This must have been due to my stereo system hammering the crap out of it.

Oh yeah, and for some reason I have had to put new oil in it every few thousand miles...what is up with that?

That is lemon law.

Tell them to give you a new car

55k on my 07 sedan, only problem has been strange fuel gauge, use tripmeter now.

Toyota reliability? Really find a Toyota with much more than corrosion problems, there were plenty of them in times gone by, not so much now.

About 30K miles on a 2007.

(Single guy for the last two years. Guess that explains the low mileage. )

It's a bigger piece of shit than my Sunfire ever was - and I drove the crap out of that car, unlike my Yaris!

2 oil leaking head gaskets . Not good . The '08 sedan now has an issue where the dome light won't come on when opening both passenger side doors .

I have no doubt that my Yaris is a lemon or maybe a Tangerine!

I had my A/C drain clogged up too because of the lack of air filter, which for me is totally dishonesty from Toyota of not throwing that filter in they must know what happens without one...

I think you battery went t out like mine and many of the rest, they last about three years, the oil thing doesn’t sound that good with only 43k, you have car checked for leaks or something, an engine may consume some oil if you drive it too hard all the time.

A Daewoo I owned like 4 years ago was supposed to be a piece of crap and turned out much better than my yaris, I put 120K on that thing and all I did was basic maintenance. I’m sure the yaris is the last Toyota I will have.

I was being silly with this one. I know that there are those out there that would flame me for it however I change every 7500 miles right now. I have been ASE certified since 1995 and have always been a firm believer in the right products can go a long way. Once my turbo installation is in place then I will probably reevaluate my consumption however with how cheap the motors are for this car at this point if I blow it up then I will just pick up another one. I plan on picking up another one to slowly rebuild it anyway for greater performance.

My parents always bought Nissan and Toyota growing up. For the most part the only issue had been how both manufacturers had issues with the body rusting out well before the mechanical would give. That really isn't the case now. I have had my share of lemons...or should I say lemon lines? 86 Escort, 88 Plymouth K car, and 1990 Cutlass calais S -442 model with the infamous Quad Four. Nothing for nothing, but if you notice a trend there all 3 cars were from the Big 3 and they were all infamous for being lemons. Nuff said on that one.

I've been carefully documenting everything after my 4th visit to Toyota of Olympia dealership. I don't think my Yaris is a lemon at this point, but I think it's just carelessness of the Toyota of Olympia dealership techs (the mess they left in my Yaris). The dealership claimed that there is nothing wrong, but air pockets in the engine?

I'd like to know.... where is the limit for pushing the car. I mean, when i drive and i do fast acceleration and i reach 6k rpm i feel like the car can barely take or like i did something not so good for the car. Im i thinking wrong?

Just remembered that the '08 sedan did the surge forward thing a few days ago . That was a first time for me . The other 1/2 said she had encountered it a few times before when she was driving . Not sure what to make of that . Should we be concerned or not ? Bring that up with TOYOTA as well ? Will be getting a call from them sometime this week .

Two yarii, an 07 auto hatch and an 09 manual hatch. About 105k miles between the two, with 75% of the mileage being on the '07. In July I replaced my serpentine belt and battery.

More reliable than your best friend and family combined

Aslong as you treat it well, you are guaranteed to be treated well too
need a place to stay- stay in your car
need a ride - just get in the thing
need a place to store stuff that wont fit in your house or garage - SUP its called a trunk

This car will ALWAYS be there and wont ever do something half way its ALL OR NOTHING.

Hope I got the point across

I'm at 102k miles and the only problem I've had is my transmission had some synchros go out and an axle seal leak. I figure the transmission problem was a fluke and am not really concerned about it.

Other than that, it's been routine maintenance. I'm still on the original brakes. I need to do the spark plugs and coolant change soon.

Ouch! How can the stealership forget to put in a cabin air filter??? I better have mine checked because when I bought the car, it came with no A/C... I just had it installed.
