"Tok" Sound when braking at low speeds (less than 10kmph)
Hi Guys, need your advice here.
My Yaris is experiencing some weird sounds during braking. A "TOK" sound comes up during stop and go driving (less than 8kmph), This does not happen at high speed braking. Im driving an automatic by the way Hope to hear your advice! |

If it is a repeatable problem just bring it in to the dealer and get them to look at it. There's still warranty on the thing.

Have you had your rear brakes cleaned and ajusted yet. Should be done every 10k miles. Or sooner. Otherwise that is your problem. Brake shoe lining has excessive travel to the drum. Clean all the dust and dirt out of the drum and off the backing plate. And properly lubricate the backing plate with brake grease and i garentee your problem should go away.
Notice i used the word garentee and should in the same sentence. =)

I recently discovered another "TOK" sound.
This happens when i step on the brake pedal and turn the steering wheel to the left it produces a single "tok sound" after that it doesnt produce the sound anymore no matter how many times i turn the steering to the left. It only reproduces the sound when i let go and press the brake pedal again and do the same procedure. The sound only comes up when in total stop. I also notice that my steering wheel is a tad harder to turn to the left compared to the right. What can be wrong with this? |

Rock tok?
Mine's been doing the same thing. I got behind the front wheel with a flashlight and discovered a rock in the hollow part of the brake rotor. I could see it through the vent holes in the backing plate. It only makes noise at low speed because centrifugal force holds it outward when the wheel is spinning faster.
I think I have to remove the brake caliper and pull the rotor off to get it out. I'm not sure how it got in there, but I have a gravel driveway and packed snow may have forced it in. |
