Silencing Tanabe Medalion Touring?

One of the things I don't like about the Tanabe Medalion Touring (or any aftermarket exhaust) is the additional noise it introduces inside the car.

I just saw this on the MicroImage store:
http://shop.microimageonline.com/Tan...ust-T310SB.htm

Will this help lower the noise from the exhaust inside the car?

I emailed Tanabe a couple of weeks ago and asked them this:
Quote:
Is there a silencer or baffle that works with the Medalion Touring that was installed on my Yaris during the R&D session?

I really want to cut down on the interior noise that's been added since installing the Medalion Touring.
this is what they said:
Quote:
We don't have anything as far as that goes for the Medalion Touring. If you really must cut down on the noise some more, you could take your car to an exhaust shop and ask if they can install another resonator somewhere in the middle of the piping.

Cool Re: Silencing Tanabe Medalion Touring?

I'm looking to quiet my car down too after the install my Medalion Touring exhaust, It's kind of loud in the cabin.

Notice the same Silencer at MicroImage and did a little search and came across these aftermarket silencers and don't know which one to get if it will help at all with the noise.

I kinda got used to it... I just have to turn the CD player louder now Post your findings here though, although I don't think I'm willing to spend more than $20 to cut down the noise a bit.

Also, just a thought, but if cabin noise is the problem, we should be looking into insulating the cabin better, at least in the back, that should help and would probably be cheaper, albeit more work...

Yes an addtional resonator will quiet the exhaust down a bit.

I run a turbo style muffler, quieter and much cheaper than the Tanabe. There is just a very slight tone change in the cabin.

Sorry guys, found out today it doesn't fit the Medalion Touring, only the Concept G.

Awww too bad.

Anyway, I didn't buy the Medalion Touring. Tanabe gave it to me for free for participating in their R&D session.

So the only way to silence the Medalion Touring / reduce noise inside the car from it is to add a resonator?

Will this make the Medalion Touring stick out more from the back of the car / extend its length?

Where would I get this resonator and how much would it cost to get it installed?

This is from your quote. You have a resonator now, directly under the middle of the car. They are suggesting ("middle of the piping"), because they don't know the car has one there already, that you could use a longer one there instead, but it is custom exhaust work that means chopping and welding your midpipe with a new resonator.

I don't think there is room to add an additional resonator, that is where the only straight section is; but I could be wrong.

Really though, in the world of aftermarket exhausts, the Medalion Touring is one of the mellowest out there.

Unhappy

W0W! I guess I'm stuck with my current setup. Not spending anything extra, and since the silencer is not available for the Medalion Touring.

Bummer. I'm seriously considering removing the Medalion Touring and just selling it. I never sold the stock exhaust. It's just been sitting in the garage wrapped up in plastic wrap.

I'm thinking about doing the same! but will see!

Does anyone know of a completely quiet exhaust aside from the stock?

I run the same set up as bigorangefront and actually it really is mellow inside and doesn't have that drone effect. Plus its very cheap I paid $23 for the muffler and $15 for the installed.

I thought the medalion touring is one of the quiet exhaust out there... And it's still noisy? If you switch exhaust and worry about the sound then why go aftermarket? Just stay stock...

Well, it was free so I took it. If I had known before they installed it that it would add that much noise inside, I would have taken it and sold it.

I would go back to stock right now, but I don't like that big, bulbous thing attached to the stock exhaust.

How do you even install those?

I'm not sure what size the Medalion Touring is:

I guess that big, bulbous part I'm talking about on the stock exhaust is the muffler. Is there any way to hide the stock exhaust's muffler or make it smaller?

I now want to try a setup where you can't see any muffler or exhaust pipe / tip unless you look under the car.

You can also insulate the inside of the cabin better, as fmicle correctly stated. It's a PITA, but well worth it.
