Carbon Air filter - which side up?

Should the side of the carbon be facing up when sitting in the cabin air filter chamber or the opposite?

Thanks

I dont know for a fact, but my reasoning would be you want the dust and dirt filtered out FIRST before the air going over the carbon. Otherwise you just clog up your carbon and it does nothing.

Well on my fish tank filter it has layer of filtration coarse to fine mesh but the carbon is near the end so I think it should be the same for the car the carbon side should be after the filter so it should be facing up.
