Fog Light Installation

I just got the fog light kit from Garm and MicroImage. I am thinking of installing them to run off the park lights instead of a separate switch. As far as the wiring goes, it should be loads easier doing it that way, and to be honest, having that fog light switch on the center console would mean either they would a) hardly be used or b) be left on accidentally.

I would just as soon have it easily turned on with the parking lights. Anyone done this?

BTW, I have an '09 5-dr LB.

If you got the latest kit from Garm
return it and ask him for the non modified kit
it will wire into your park lights a lot easier
than the new kit will .
As the new Modified MI Kits are a factory setup
and plug and play .

Thanks for the advice on that! I hate to send the whole thing back. Wonder if I could just buy the wiring kit for the park lights and have them air-shipped? I wanna get them on ASAP. :)

I wired mine in through the underhood junction black.
I then used the OEM real Toyota relay I bought on Ebay for $15 to avoid an aftermarket wire job and chinese relay.
I had found an excellent writeup by a member "ClownCar". Made the whole install real easy with pics too.

I know this may sound a bit dodgy, but couldn't you just tap into the park light wiring and splice the fogs in? I have hooked up tons of extra lights on trucks through the years and I just found some power and spliced in. Of course I would want the fogs coming on only when the park lights are turned on, so this might be a problem. I tend to break everything down to as simple as possible, but I don't want my car on fire either. :)

You can use what you have in hand.

1. Install the under hood wiring, including the pigtail that connects the fogs to the connector in the under hood fuse panel.

2. Insert the relay included with the kit in the OEM slot in the under dash fuse panel. Once you do that the fog wiring is complete to the OEM headlight stalk (but of course you don't have the stalk with the fog light switch, so they won't turn on).

3. Pin #3 (yellow wire) on the head light stalk is now the wire that needs to be grounded to turn the fogs on. In the OEM setup that happens by the fog light switch connecting pin 3 to pin 4 (orange wire). In your case, to make them turn on with the parking lights, you simply need to jump the yellow wire in pin 3 to the white wire in pin 13.

Where is that connector in you pic from? The inside/dash fuse box?

So all we have to do to get these to turn on with parkers is splice using a 3m quick tap 3 + 13 (along with the other steps you mention)?

This correct?

Dude, you are like a friggin manual on the Yaris. I think Toyo should hire you:p

That's the headlight stalk connector (at the base of the headlight stalk, under the lower steering column cover).

Correct on the splice.

It's 0.5mm, which is 24 AWG.

Actually, for what we were discussing above, just a tap splice is all that is needed.
